I follow Home Depot's blog and they had a post this morning about modern chairs made with $20 of plywood and zip ties. The chairs were really interesting, although NMS, so I clicked over to the blog that made them and it's HomeMade Modern, homemade-modern.com/
I absolutely love some of the projects featured! It's a similar thing to Ana White where he gives super detailed plans with tools and costs.
Zipstitch chair, $20 and 6 hours:
Concrete and wood coffee table, $50 and 8 hours:
Whitewashed table with hairpin legs, $170 and 4 hours:
And he's got a ton of neat decor stuff, like a coatrack made with screwdrivers and a candelabra made from pipes.
I like that chair a lot, minus the zip ties. It would look fantastic and more finished with something like leather laces tying the pieces together. Now I'm trying to think about another material that would work since I don't buy leather and am not crazy about the zip ties. Hmmm...

What about a heavy gauge wire? Instead of tying each pair of holes individually, it could string all of them together like a spiral bound notebook.
Love this idea. Or any type of cording with a high weight limit would work - I first thought shoelaces, but that could get pricey since you need so much. There are rock climbing cords and things like that that would be aesthetically pleasing, too, and wouldn't stretch too much with wear.
