We took him out to a Hibatchi restaurant to celebrate a couple of weekends ago, since he usually ends up working on weekends, and had a free Saturday night. Our standard gift is that we pay for him to get the MLB package, so he can watch the Red Sox all season long. It's one of his favorite gifts, and he tells us so all the time.
My dad's wife has their phone, so I couldn't even call him - I FB'ed him. For Luis, we went to the zoo with the girls. He liked it; girls seemed mostly unimpressed. Oh well, we got out in the sun for a few hours.
Then, went went to Belk's in LOL to go shopping for new dress shirts and ties for him, but he's so Big and Tall that we didn't find anything.
Oh, and I showed him the picture of the gas grill that I have on layaway for him

This was the first Fathers Day that I've been able to spend with my dad in about 4 years since he lives in Costa Rica, but lucky us, he's here now for a couple days visiting. So, my H went and played golf with him yesterday morning and I had dinner with him and family last night. It was nice!

I called him. And sent him cards from K and I. That he won't get until probably tomorrow. Oops.
For H I bought him some new shirts, had a photo book made of Kennedy and got him an engraved mug. We went to his dad and stepmom's house and hung out there for the day.
Fathers day has been sad for me since 1992 when I lost mine, and I've mostly just tuned it out. But this year is my H's first fathers day so it's kind of rude for me to ignore it anymore. I had him a travel coffee mug made with a collage of pics of him and A on it with the words Fathers Day 2012 on it and I will do it every year because he uses his travel mugs every day for his drive to work. After my dad died I would still buy him a fathers day card for a few years and write him a letter in it, as sort of therapy and to keep him with me. But I got away from it. This year I looked at "Fathers Day from daughter" cards again since we had a girl, and I have to admit it was a little sad, but still happy because it's awesome that A loves her daddy so much <3 ETA Hope that wasn't too Debbie Downer
I called my dad, since he's in FL and I can't see him. My sister gave him a present from both of us - we bought him a nice plant to put in the corner of the family room where our dog's bed was. We had to put her down last month and I know he just keeps looking at that empty corner out of habit and getting sad, so it's sort of a memorial plant. He loved it.
For my H I got him a golf pic he wanted for his office, and also dressed the baby up in golf clothes and took a picture for him. He loved it! To celebrate we went into the city to our old neighborhood and had lunch at our fave BBQ place there. Lots of fun.
We had a cook out at our house. My parents, grandmother, ILs & BIL all came over. I bought all the dads a double picture frame, found nice poems about being a dad or grandfather & included a picture of DS. Everyone loved it.
