I've set some weight loss goals and am nearing the first big one. Once I hit it (am thinking about six weeks from now) I am going to get a makeup make over. I don't use a lot of makeup but the "look" I have I've had for years.
I have not idea what BB / CC cream is, etc.
I am not opposed to using more makeup, but need guidance.
Where is the best place to go? I've heard Sephora b/c they are not tied to any one product. Is that a good plan?
What is a good budget? Much of my stuff is middle of the road stuff. I do use NARS eye shadow, but beyond that it is not expensive stuff. How much should I budget for new makeup (should include cleansing and mousitorizing stuff as well).
Any other recommendations? Is it like going to a hair stylist where you bring a picture of what you think you want, or do they work with you to figure out what would work for your skin/coloring?
Sephora is a good place to start of you have a mid-range budget (think $20-$30 for most products) and are interested in trying a variety of brands. Going in with an idea of the type of look you're wanting (dramatic, neutral, work-appropriate, evening, etc...) is a very good idea. I wouldn't necessarily bring pictures, but it wouldn't hurt if you have a very specific look in mind to duplicate.
As far as budget goes, don't feel you have to spend a lot to get decent makeup. A lot of drugstore brands are of comparable quality to high-end and mid-range brands. Doing some research ahead of time to know what's it there and what people like is a great way to get the most bang for your buck. Makeupalley.com and temptalia.com are two places I use all the time for product reviews.
Thanks. I do have a few more formal occasions that I go to now, so I am planning on bringing some inspiration looks. I've been clipping magazine reviews of things as well. I will check out those sites.
I'd personally look for a salon in your area that carries some makeup lines and employs makeup artists. I feel like that is less of a crapshoot than going to Sephora or a makeup counter.
I'd budget a few hundred for purchasing, if you can.

Yeah, I think those that have it. We don't have any high-end chains in my area, so I go to independent salons. So you may want to check the higher-end independent salons in your area.
I've had bad luck wih a salon make up artist as well, so do you have any really stylish friends who can give you a recommendation?
I would budget $300 for products.
If you want a new facial routine, I would recommend a dermatologist or dermatology PA (that's who I see and it's cheaper and she can refer me to a doc in the practice if needed.). I didn't need any fancy cleaners or lotions, just Cereve which I get at Wal-Mart, but I did need antiobiotic cream:)
