I am listening to instrumental Christmas music. I think I've done good waiting until after my Birthday to start it. :-)
I plan on organizing closets and applying for internships this week. We are going to have some really warm days, so also making sure my yard doesn't die.

I dropped H off at the crack of dawn this morning with the understanding he would be out for a few weeks. I get a text a few hours later stating they might not leave today blah blah blah. Yes, I'd love to have him home longer, but can a girl get some notice? He's freaking out since I'm working a double today and wouldn't be able to pick him up.

I'm supposed to be doing the last of the packing and starting the cleaning for inspection on the house. But, we are still dealing with car issues and got a quote for like $1500-2000 from the dealership. Hence wanting to unpack everything and stay here. Or trade the stupid thing in because this will be like $5k we've dropped on it in 2 years. We bought it cash though so I really don't feel like going back to the world of car payments.

What's Joe driving? Can you sell your car and drive his for the year he's away, stash some cash away and buy another car cash when you get to AK?

Good morning! I am working today but at the moment trying to figure out something wonderful to make for dinner since E will be home tonight and I haven't seen him since early Saturday morning. Right now I have Lemon, Pesto Potato salad, and corn. I think I'm going to do some sort of chicken to go with it.
I'm going to try and get some sort of work out in before E gets home though because I didn't walk this morning.

We already sold his truck last summer before he left for Guam. We've been a 1 car family since then, as I was back to being a stay at home mom. This is the only car we have right now.

Sonofabitch! When it rains it pours.
What are car prices like back home? Do you think you could get a reasonably reliable used car for the $2K you're going to plunk down on the Cav?

I haven't even looked at car prices. He worked on it all weekend and it is finally driving/shifting/idling fine but the check engine light is still on. And the code it reads when hooked up is ECM failure. So of course the dealership tells us the whole thing needs replaced, Joe's mechanic brother says he's more inclined to think it's a chip or the module but not the whole thing + wiring harness (which is what takes us into the thousands).
We bought the Caliber or like $12k 2 summers ago + this 5k? A brand new one isn't even worth that much. I don't know if we could find a decent car for me to drive for the year/through the winter, but it definitely wouldn't be likely that we'd find something at that price that we'd actually take to Alaska.
We've been in debt pay off mode and so this fix + moving out of pocket will drain our savings and we'll have to start from scratch. I just want to take a nap.
Just got back from the store after dropping the boys at preschool. Next up is Target and the jewlery store, then picking them up.
Our anniversary is Wednesday, and even though we're not going to do anything big this year (just installed a/c at our house) we're still planning to go out to dinner at a cool new restaurant. Not much else on tap as of right now.
H just called me and told me he has to leave for JRTC on Saturday. He wasn't supposed to leave until the 1st. I don't think H has ever left on the day he was supposed to for anything Army-related but I'm still annoyed. Ok, I'm done whining now.
Oh, man, DH hates it when I play Christmas music around the house. (I usually manage to wait until December, too...)
This week is playing catchup on work, for the most part. Oh, and I have two sweaters to start on for DH (one from yarn that was ordered and is now waiting at my local yarn shop for pick-up, the other from yarn we found on a weekend excursion yesterday). And I promised a friend of mine kilt-socks, so I need to figure out what pattern that will be using.
Yep, knitting. I lead an exciting, exciting life...

I hope that Rudi is okay Ojo. A friend of mine just went through something similar with her dog and thankfully everything is okay. A good thing on that lucky find for the closet.
This week, let's see I just got done running and FRG event all by myself. I was only supposed to be the pocket book originally but it turned out okay once I figured out how to get to the place.
Then we also have an FRG meeting and praying I don't have to run the whole meeting by myself. Hopefully not. I'm only the stinking treasurer!
And then just trying to get the house in perfect order as much as possible for when DH comes home again soon.

All with a baby due in just a few months. I'm a huge fan of debt payoff, but I don't mess around with car reliability. Even if you have to go back to having a car payment, it's likely worth the peace of mind to know that your car won't crap out on you.
I know you said your BIL is a mechanic. Is he in MI? If you keep the Caliber and continue to have issues, do you have family members up there that can pitch in and do the work that J would be doing? If not, it seems like a no brainer because of how fast the labor would add up just for the diagnostic stuff you're dealing with.
So, Joe did the tune up and all of that jazz this weekend, right? Cleaned the throttle body also. Spent all Saturday and Sunday on it. After he got home this evening he said the check engine light hadn't been on since he left work, still wasn't on. Ran it back up to the dealership and no more codes. Apparently enough successful cycles from start-drive-shut off with no issues are necessary to shut the light off, sometimes. I DON'T KNOW but I just pray it stays off until we ATLEAST get it to Michigan and between Joe's 3 weeks off, and being near my dad (ex mechanic) and BIL, can keep the car together until we pay off all debt and can trade it in for a good 4wd before leaving for Alaska.
We seem to be in the clear so now just to get to Michigan, get in new house, send Joe off, get Isaac started in DK and deliver this baby and the rest of the year should be easy peasy, right!
Oh and, Ojo...keep us updated on Rudi. I hope it's nothing alarming. Positive thoughts that way!
Ojo, Sam had something similiar last summer. I took him to the vet and they told me to monitor it and come back if it got bigger, but she wasnt overly concerned. After a few weeks it went away on it's own. I hope that it is the same with Rudi.
