I generally do not get my nails done very often. When I have had a manicure, it lasts *maybe* 24 hours before it starts chipping. As for pedicures, I usually get one at the start of the summer, but then I let it go. I know that perhaps my personal grooming related to nails is not the best.
I finally found a good salon and had my first pedicure of the summer. It was $26 plus tip. Now I am wondering, how often should I go? How often do you go? Every 2 weeks? Every 6 weeks? Do you do at-home pedicures?

I usually go every 4 weeks from April til September. Though, this summer I've been doing a lot of projects around the house and it doesn't seem to be lasting as long so I may start going every 3 weeks.
I go about every four weeks. I could go longer, I just like going. I do at-home ones in the winter. It's easy for me to paint my nails and it's cold so my feel aren't out much.
I hardly ever get manicures. They just don't last that long. I'm trying really hard to keep my nails from breaking so I'm going to start using a strengthener on them and try to keep them moisturized.
I started getting monthly pedicures. I got a pedicure when I was in my friend's wedding, and the pedicurist kept going on and on about how dry my feet were. I decided that my best bet at keeping them from getting gross was to get monthly pedicures, as much for the foot care as for the nail polish (which I could obviously do on my own). I found a great place that does long, relaxing pedicures for $28.
I only go for special events, and then usually one at the beginning of sandal season. Probably about 4-6 times a year. I actually don't love getting a pedicure unless it's part of a social event. I'll totally go with a friend and chat, but I feel awkward on my own, and I HATE getting the technician who thinks it's her place to critique my cuticles or dry heels, etc. Like, shut up! I just want to read my People magazine!
I find it pretty easy to maintain on my own otherwise - I'll do my own pedicure once every 2-4 weeks.

Ugh, I totally had this technician before my friend's wedding. I was like "I am paying $100 for this mani/pedi at the FUCKING LOEWS HOTEL and you can't shut up about my dry skin?" :@
Almost never. I paint my nails and toes at least once a week myself.
Same here. I usually do them myself. I would rather do it in the comfort of my own home, in front of the TV, than go out of my way, park the car, and sit there, unable to do anything while someone else paints them. I hate the experience of going out to get my nails done.

I generally go for a special event (mainly weddings) otherwise, just do it myself. I'd go more often but I don't really have a "go to" place here, the only place I've gone to is on the expensive side and while it was great (my mom and I went together and had a lot of fun) it's not something I can afford normally.

In the summer I usually go every 2-3 weeks. In the winter I usually go polish free and just trim my nails myself unless I have a special event to go to, then I'll go get a pedicure.
I generally go every other week. Manicures for me aren't necessarily about the polish but the cleanup and shaping and such. I'm no good at that stuff, but I don't mind doing my own polish changes whenever I need to. I'm hard on my hands too, so I usually change polish twice myself before my next salon trip. Pedicures for some reason last longer. I guess it's because I'm not washing dishes with my feet. Heh.

I just had this happen. I paid $42 + tip for a pedi on Friday. The whole time the lady complained about how hard it was to work on my feet. I sent a note to the spa.
Not as often as I should: I've fallen out of the routine, but I need to get back into it. I've kidded myself into thinking I do an adequate job on my feet at home, but that's sadly not true lately.

Good for you: that's ridiculous and lacking professionalism on her part.
Never... anymore. I just do my own at home. 4 years ago I went to a place I had been to a few times before but shortly after, a toe on my left foot started itching profusely, then swelling, then got infected. Then the fungus settled in. My toe hasn't been the same since, even after treatments. I will never go again 1) because I am embarrassed of my freaky toe, 2) because I am terrified of passing it along to someone else, and 3) because I am so afraid it will happen again to another toe! Sadness.

OMG this is my pedicure nightmare! I am so sorry this happened to you.

I don't have the time for any of it. I paint my toes every few weeks when it chips so bad that it's ugly and I redo my nails every few months. I have no time & it's not a priority for me.
When I worked in Manhattan, I went to this great and cheap salon that did such a great job I only had to get pedicures once a month in the summer. When I lived in FL, I never found anyone that good and my pedicures only lasted 2 weeks TOPS, but I was still too cheap to go more often than once a month. I am hoping I have better luck in my new city.
