So DH and I will be in Rome for 3 days following our Med. cruise. I feel like I am missing something on our itinerary for these days. Anyone who has been, can you please advise if we are missing anything important. We have tons of open time and I want to make sure we get as much in as possible - keep in mind we are not wanting to be up at 7AM.
Sunday, 9/16: arrive in Rome after disembarking from RCCL - approximately Noon. Check into Hotel Napolean. Walk to sites - Trevi Fountain (evening), Spanish Steps.
Monday, 9/17: private highlight tour of the Vatican booked starting at 1:30PM
Tuesday, 9/18: private tour of the Colliseum, Forum and Pantheon booked starting at 1:30PM
You're getting the highlights. I mean, of course, you could spend forever in Rome, but that's pretty much the major sights. I'd say maybe add Via Veneto (Hotel Eden's roof top bar-- totally overpriced, but a beautiful view) to your first night. It's an easy walk from Trevi/SS.
If you can add Scavi into the Vatican, it's pretty cool. From a historic perspective or, to the extent relevant, Catholic (i.e. you see St Peter's bones). If not, still check out St Peter's itself-- worth a few extra minutes (Pieta, etc)
For Tues-- When you're done, do the walk over to Piazza Navona (2mins from Pantheon)-- beautiful Bernini fountain and a fun vibe. Nice place to have a drink/coffee, etc. Or if you're looking for a sweet, check out Blue Ice (best gelato in the city, IMO) b/w Navona and the Pantheon.
