DH's grandparents chided us yesterday (on father's day, nice) about the fact that we still swaddle DS. He's 3.5 months old. We use the Miracle Blanket. He's outgrown the pouch portion, so his feet are loose. He sleeps great pretty much anywhere (carseat, rock n' play, in my arms or on my chest) and has been STTN for over a month.
When did you stop swaddling? And how did you transition away from the swaddle?

We stopped swaddling after we got home from the hospital. DS didn't mind the first 2-3 days because he was so tired, after that he wasn't having it. (I answered never in the poll)
I can't remember exactly but it was around 3 or 4 weeks. DS would never stay swaddled and was fine without it. We did use a swaddle me blanket for a few days when he transitioned to the crib around 2 months.

Around 4 months. We deswaddled (and switched to sleep sacks) and moved them to their cribs in the nursery from cosleepers in our bedroom all at the same time. It was a very easy transition.

well, DS is almost 7 months old and he still loves being swaddled. I imagine we'll stop when he hates it or he turns 1. Whichever happens first. He's almost pulling his arms out regularly, so we'll see.
I stopped using a swaddling blanket around 2 months, then had to start again with the Halo Sleep Sack swaddle when his eczema got so bad that he couldn't sleep because he was stratching his face so much. We finally quit that around 6 months when we got the eczema under control.

Just under 6 months for bedtime. She was in the RnP until 5.5 months. Once we moved her to the crib, she flipped over while swaddled like a week or two in. She was never swaddled again for bed. She STTN pretty much from birth on and only had like 2 nights where she woke up once when we got rid of the swaddle.
I'm firmly believe your child will let you know when they are ready. I did not want to slowly break the swaddle. I wanted to wait until she was ready to be done with it and it would not interrupt her sleep if we got rid of it.
We stop when the kid can roll over, which in my kids' cases was around 3-4 months. I've heard/read that it can become a suffocation risk at that point.

We only stopped swaddling when we sleep trained them at 6 months. We eliminated the swaddle cold turkey since we knew it was going to be a rough few nights anyway.

Around 3.5m because H was convinced the kid was getting ready to start rolling over. We weaned by doing one arm out for a week then just switched to a sleepsack so he'd still have something on him, but wasn't restrictive. The kid rolled over in his crib at night 2 days after we dropped the swaddle completely. Guess H was right.

7.5 months. We were planning on sending a really large swaddle blanket with him to college.
DS2 sucks his thumb, so I don't see the swaddle lasting nearly as long with him. He likes the swaddle to fall asleep but then when he wakes even a bit he struggles to get his arm out and access his thumb.

We used the Swaddle Me blankets sleepers. It worked with both kids until they were about 4 months old. That's when they started to roll over and I didn't want to keep them swaddled anymore.
We stopped about 3 months when he could really bust his arms out of the blanket. We stopped cold turkey and luckily had no issues. We put him to sleep on his stomach though once he was out of the swaddle because he always slept better so we didn't have the 'startle' issue.

We stopped swaddling #1 the day she came home from the hospital. She hated it.
DD #2 liked it but the kid was Houdini. By 2.5 months she could get out of anything we tried and woke up screaming. She did fuss without it for a while, but much less than when she started swaddled and got loose, so we gave up.
