Since my husband is American we have to file taxes for him in both the US and Canada (he's just here as a permanent resident, he will never give up his US citizenship nor will he apply for Canadian citizenship).
Anyway, I'm the one that always handles the taxes and I forgot to file for 2012! I don't know what made me remember. I usually do it at the same time as our Canadian ones, but I think J's birthday planning had me too busy and I forgot.
The good thing is that we won't owe any money--there is an agreement between the US and Canada that you only play taxes to your country of primary residence unless your income is over a certain amount.
Even still, I feel a bit anxious about forgetting. They give an extension of 2 months to people outside of the country, but that would have been June soooo yeah. There isn't any penalty for late filing if you don't owe money, right? That's probably a ridiculously dumb question.
