I got a call from my daughter this morning. She was driving her boyfriend's (fiance now according to the insurance company and apparently him - lol) car and she was turning a corner when a speeding car overshot the corner, she swerved to avoid hitting him, hit the curb and broke her boyfriend's car's axle. One of their last conversations was "I'm letting you drive my car, but don't wreck it." when he left on deployment three weeks ago. So from halfway across the world he is having to deal with insurance issues. Poor guy, and poor DD.
(On a funny aside, the insurance company called and asked if she had permission to drive it. Her response was "I had permission to drive it, but I didn't have permission to wreck it!" And she sent pictures of herself trying on wedding dresses in his last care package.)
I'm glad she's okay! That sounds really scary. Are they going to have to total out the car?
As a teenager, I drove my mom's car to my boyfriend's late night indoor soccer game. As we got on the road to head home, I called my parents to let them know I was leaving and that I'd be home in 40 minutes. Sure enough, I hit a deer (it's a habit I have) and screamed into the phone. My dad thought I was joking and my mom grabbed the phone from him to ask, "DID YOU HURT MY CAR?!" She was serious as a heart attack. It's a wonder I turned out so normal.
Ha... we may have the same Mother. I almost cut my finger off in 5th grade, and my mom's primary concern was for me not to get any blood on the white carpet.
