It really depends on how you handle heat. I don't do well when it gets above 100, which most hot classes do. I like warm yoga because it stays at about 95. It is still hot enough for your muscles to get loose and to sweat out toxins, but not so hot that it makes you want to throw up.
A story:
So I joined a new gym because I hadn't worked out in about 6 months. I picked a random yoga class to go to because I used to be really into it and it was a great work out. I show up at the class, get going, and I start to sweat. I remember thinking to myself "man! I'm getting hot already. I must be even more out of shape than I thought!" so I keep going, my shirt is soaked, and about 20 minutes in I start to feel sick. I was NOT going to leave this class because I had been chatting with the teacher before the class started, and I had been telling her how I was really into yoga and stuff. So long story short, I spent almost the entirety of this hot yoga class trying not to throw up all over my mat.

I do hot yoga and it has taken me a few months to warm up to it. In order to not feel like I am going to puke I won't eat for about 2-3 hours before class, make sure I hydrate through the day (serious hydrate), i will probably drink 1/2 cup of gatorade abotu 45-1 hour before for the electrolyte boost, wear clothes that are somewhat tight, wear a head band like sweaty band or a bondi band, and remember to breathe. The mister almost passed out a few weeks ago because he was not breathing properly during hot yoga so breathing is important.
I love hot yoga. Mine is hot, but a vinyasa flow as opposed to bikram. Find a spot close to the door and away from any heaters for your first time. If the heat is too much for you, it's ok to step out.
Hydrate, hydrate, hydrate. When you are done, drink some coconut water. I also do not eat for 2 hour prior and jut drink a lot of water.
I personally love how detoxed I feel afterwards and it does wonders for my skin.
Were you able to sleep afterwards??? I used to take a late yoga class (not hot yoga) and I was always wired afterwards. You looked cute afterwards though! As always.
I walked into a class once and lasted maybe 5 minutes. I fucking hate heat so I am not really sure why I thought this might be ok.

This would be me. I know somewhere on here recently saunas came up and I agreed I hate those. Hot yoga sounds to me like being forced to exercise in a sauna, while staring into someone else's sweaty ass.
I love hot yoga, but I'm more of the vinyasa flow than Bikram. I was bored in bikram and it was too structured and harcore... I like a little zen with my yoga. But definitely do what PPs have said as far as food and hydration! Very important.

Have you seen the craigslist ad floating around about the guy selling his yoga mat. It is long but funny as hell about his 1 and only attempt at hot yoga.

I saw that, maybe on the best of craiglist? It was hilarious.
I took my first hot yoga class in about 4 years on Wednesday night and it was brutal. Somebody told me I was in the hotter part of the room which may be what made it feel so bad. I got a 10 session groupon so I will try to do a class or 2 a week to mix it up from strength training.
Seems like a good workout although I'm not sore at all. My recommendation is to take it slow the first few times. I thought I could go non-stop because I'm in good shape right now. I got dizzy and felt nauseous a couple times. I'm hoping the 8am class on Sunday will be better for me. I brought 32 oz of water and it was nowhere near enough. Try at least 50+ oz. Good luck!
