We're trying to plan a vacation for my grandparents' 50th anniversary next July, but I could use some help. Any suggestions for a vacation destination for 10 people ages 1-73, has a mild climate, and is no more than 8 hours flight time from Texas? Canada (whistler or Calgary) is a top contender, but a beach sure would be nice.
In July? Hawaii will take about 9/10 hours from Texas (6 hour flight from SD - I've been a couple times this year).
Coronado Island/SD s good to consider as well. We are about 80 degrees in July, have a beach, plenty to do for all ages, and lots of side trips if you wanted that too!
Grand Haven, Michigan (or Traverse City, Leland, Ludington, Pentwater, Charlevoix - there are a lot of nice towns along the beach in Western Michigan). Fly into Grand Rapids, MI airport and drive about 1-3 hours from there (depending on which city). There are beautiful sand beaches all along the eastern shore of Lake Michigan (west side of Michigan). It is pretty affordable. You can rent boats and jet skis in most of the towns. You could also rent a cabin or beach house (or 2). Sleeping Bear Dunes is also gorgeous and is fairly close by to a few of the cities and would be great for a day trip. Near Traverse City and Leland are lots of great wineries. And all of these cities have at least a few good restaurants, some more than others. Traverse City also has a bigger hotel/resort but I've never been to it. I think it has an indoor water park and such, but don't not positive.

Alaskan cruise, especially if your grandparents haven't been... The weather will be a welcome relief from the Texas heat, there's so much to see/do, and you can eat together every night while still exploring your own activities during the day. We've found that cruising is a particularly good match if anyone in your family (such as the grandparents) has mobility issues... I used to be anti-cruising, but it works so well when we take multigenerational vacations that I can't deny the benefits
I agree with Expat, I think a cruise would be best. There are a ton of different activities to meet everyones needs and you could arrange group dinners, etc..So everyone could meet up at the end of the day. We did one as a family years ago and it was awesome. Since you are in Texas you could even catch one leaving from Galveston and see plenty of beaches in Mexico.
Hawaii would be my first choice. I'd also through Providenciales, Turks and Caicos out there. We went a few weeks ago and loved it. Maui is still our favorite place in the world though.

Canada/New England cruise might also fit your requirements. Holland America does cruises to/from Boston and Quebec/Montreal throughout July. I am sure other lines do similar itineraries as well.
