I started on rice cereal and made it very very thin so he would think it is just think milk. I gradually increased the thickness over a week. After that I started with peas. I have a high speed belder (Blend Tech) so I got the frozen organic peas and pureed them with breast milk. He took to that well. Next we did sweet potatoes with breast milk, then carrots then broccoli then caluflower. LO is just 12.5 months so I remember it like it was yesterday.

We started with rice, then we did oatmeal, and then started stage 1 Gerber foods. We did the veggies first (sweet potatoes, green beans, squash, carrots) and then we did fruits (apples, bananas, peaches, pears).
He didn't really care for rice cereal alone, but he likes it mixed with stuff. Everything else he loved. I didn't make any of the food on my own so I can't speak for how to cook baby food but we had great luck with Gerber baby foods
We did oatmeal mixed with lots of breast milk around 6 months.
He loved it! It was very messy and cute. He did try to grab the spoon a lot so that made it even messier. Looking back we probably should have tried to give him a spoon to play with,

I didnt start with rice cereal, I did plain oatmeal. I ground up the dried oats in my tiny blender to make it reaaaalllyyy small. then I used BM and a little hot water to make it. She did that once a day or so for about 2 weeks then we just went straight to avocado and banana. For reference she was almost 7 months old.
We tried rice cereal once or twice, but he had horrible BMs in the tub afterward, so... We moved right on to avocado, principally b/c I'm lazy and had it on hand: essentially no prep and he loved it. (We just skipped cereal altogether w/DD and started right in with roasted butternut squash, avocado, etc.)
We are starting solids now and doing BLW. DS is 6 months.
We started with slices of avocado, sweet potato and bananas. Also have tried peaches, carrots and pears. I roasted the sweet potato slices to soften them and steamed the carrots.
After that we gave her mashed avocado. I think we also started baby yogurt at this time.
Then I did roasted (or steamed) & pureed veggies: sweet potato, butternut squash, pumpkin, zucchini, broccoli, spinach, potato, parsnips. Then I did combos like spinach & potato.
After that I made pureed chicken. Looks and smells awful, but she liked it, especially mixed with sweet potato.
After that I did fruit purees: peaches, pears, plums, mangoes, applesauce. If the fruit was too runny I'd mix it with some oatmeal.
I didn't follow this chart in terms of timing, but I liked it a lot for ideas of new things to try:

Per pedi's okay (DS has reflux so she said solids would help) we started brown rice cereal mixed with BM right at 4 months. From there, I did oatmeal, and the Stage 1 purees every 3 days to make sure no allergic reaction occurred.
DS LOVES to eat. We have had no issues with solids. We plan to start actual hunks of food (avocado, banana, sweet potato chunks) around 6 months.

Oh and I don't know if this has been said, but it makes a huge difference if DS is well rested and not starving when we feed him. Hungry yes, starving no. He doesn't have the patience if he is super tired or starving.

We did oatmeal first because I had a poor pooper. I didnt want the rice to make it worse. After a few days, then we did prunes (store bought) she hated them. Too strong. Then I made my own purees. (apples, pears, sweet potatoes mixed with apple, peach). Then at 6 mths, we added chickenpluspear to the mix (chicken alone is dry) I do mostly homemad (peel, chop, steam, blend, pour in ice cube trays then pop into plastic bags, thaw overnight) but sometimes I buy the store stuff for her to try variations of things I dont feel like making in case she doesnt like it. And I buy beefplusveggies because making my own beef grosses me out.

We're going to skip rice cereal. I'm not sure yet if we'll do purees, BLW sounds very appealing to me. I just ordered the book, it should be delivered later this week.

Rice cereal mixed with breast milk - but then quickly moved to sweet potatoes I believe. Shortly after we tried green beans (no luck) then decided to throw caution to the wind and give her apples.

We just started BLW. First meal was pancakes, banana, and sausage. She's loving carby things the most, especially toast strips. I'm just making breakfast and lunch things we can share.
we started with sweet potatoes, then went to butternut squash, avocado, peas and then carrots. we follow the 4 day wait rule.
i did thin his first foods out a little with formula.
everything got cooked/baked in the oven except the peas and carrots (steamed), pureed in the blender (peas) or food processor and frozen in .33oz servings (IKEA silicone freezer trays). we defrost 3-6 at a time depending on how hungry the piglet is. we don't heat his food though... we can tell first thing in the morning how much he'll eat, he's either screaming for food or not.
