Yay, the what are you reading threads on other boards never seem to have SF/Fantasy recommendations in them. So, ladies, anything good?
I'm reading The Last Dragonslayer by Jasper Fforde right now. I like it, but maybe not as much as Tuesday Next. I'm just getting out of the really long exposition part though, so hopefully it'll get good soon.
I'm also working my way through the James Potter series to get a HP fix.
I just finished Ready Player One which I actually did pick up as a recommendation from here a while ago I really enjoyed it, it was quite fun, although the main character was almost TOO much of a teenager at times...I found myself rolling my eyes at him a bit, lol.
I don't read scifi or fantasy, although my H does. However, I do read a lot of geeky stuff, and my current book is Big Data, which is all about the ability to draw correlations based upon massive amounts of data that may not seem, on its surface, to be useful or even relevant. It is surprisingly interesting because it includes a lot of real world anecdotes. The most surprising conclusion so far is that causation may no longer matter, because mere correlation may be more useful and accurate.
I don't read much fiction at all, but I did really enjoy ""The Looking Glass Wars." It's a trilogy. It's an Alice In Wonderland based book series, but it's not traditional at all and is quite good.
I just picked up The Prisoner of Azkaban this morning to take with me today. It's been far too long, and I'm probably more excited than I should be to re-read it (for the millionth time).
I'm in the middle of the Eyre Affair by Jasper Fforde right now.
As for recs, one of my favorite series is Dennis L. McKiernan's Faery series. I believe it starts with Once Upon a Winter's Night. He does a good job at capturing the class fairy tale feel while still making the story work in a full length novel.
I'm probably not very helpful...I'm finishing up GOT right now.
I really need to re-read those books. There are so many details that I've forgotten and Martin's writing style just makes me happy!
You know, I really liked the first several books, but I am on Dance of Dragons, and I noticed that he repeats things...a lot. I can't think of an example, but there are times when passages are repeated just paragraphs after it was said.

Felt the same way. The author was clearly fulfilling some of his personal fanboy dreams.

I'm so far over in the fluff side of geeky reading that the rest of you are making me feel a bit stoopid. But whatever, it's summer and I wanted something light to read while chasing the munchkin. I've got John Green's "Looking for Alaska." I suppose it really only counts as nerdy because it's written by a nerdfighter. I'm still going to count it though.

I just finished reading Robopocolypse by Daniel h Wilson which I thought was much better than AMPED. Another series I started this summer was The Passage trilogy, which I really enjoyed. Warning, the third book is not yet published. Grrrrr

I also just finished up Ready Player One, though I did the audio book which was narrated by Will Wheaton. It was enjoyable, but I agree, it was a little silly at times. I was annoyed at the "big" character twist at the end though, it was really predictable, and therefore mildly annoying. A fun "read" overall though, I'd recommend it to anyone who likes video games and geek references.
I'm a YA reader mainly...just finished the last book of The Girl of Fire and Thorns trilogy (not as good as the others but not terrible) and am reading the second Throne of Glass book now. It's not overly well written but a good light read.
Recently I started the trilogy that starts with The False Prince which I loved. Can't wait for the third to be released.
Am I the only one who puts book release days on their calendar? My H teases me but I always forget otherwise!

Love YA! I'm counting down to the third Divergent release right now. I'm going to look into your suggestions, not that I need to make my "to read" list any longer.
