I feel like an ass for having to ask this but it is one of the things that drives me crazy when I run.
I plug the earbuds into my phone and then put them in my ears but I feel like there is 3 feet of cord just flopping around. It ends up in my mouth, I've knocked it out of the phone while running, it's a huge distraction and I look like an idiot with this cord hitting me in the face. No one else I see run, seems to have this issue. I have tried tucking them in my shirt but they don't stay.

I have an armband that holds my phone, and it has a spot to wrap excess cord around. That takes up most of the slack. In the winter, some of my jackets have a good pocket for my phone and if I use that I tend to feed my cord through my shirt.
I hate cords - wireless is the way to go - I got a bluetooth headset earlier this year and have not looked back, it was pricey, but so worth the investment.
When I did run with cords I would thread them through the strap on my sports bra - right behind my neck, keep my phone in a pouch on my back and would pull the cord so it would go under the strap and keep it taught on my back. I had to adjust a few times throughout my run, but it was as good as it got.

Which headphones did you go with? I am considering this option.

I'm also interested in hearing more about a bluetooth headset. I listen to Pandora or Spotify rather than a playlist though - would bluetooth work with these too?
I have perfected my earphone cord strategy. I run the cord down the BACK of my sportsbra, and clip my iPod shuffle to the front of my right hip, I use the shuffle to clip down any extra cord, it works perfectly! I actually bought an iPod shuffle with the sole intent of doing this setup, and it was totally worth it. Now I don't know how people can stand to run with a bulky iPhone strapped to them with the cord flying all over the place!

I currently run the cord up the back of my shirt.
I currently have Thumpblu by QAK - I bought them at a race expo. They are ok, they have a hard plastic piece that goes behind the head to keep the earpieces in place, they are fragile and difficult to travel with (I broke my first pair the day I got them, I now carry them in a Tupperware sandwich container), and it took my ears a while to get used to them (they would cause pain/soreness in the place where the earpiece sat on my ear, but after a few uses it has gone away). They stay in place great when running. I think they were $69 at the expo, $79 on the website.
I want Jaybird Bluebuds X - I tried them at the same race expo, but after I had already bought the Thumps. They were twice the price, but don't have the hard plastic connector, just a small cord. I do worry about them not staying in place when I run and possibly the small cord bouncing. They were on special for $120 or $130 at the expo, online they go for $170. If I ever find them again at an expo I am buying them.
After buying I have researched a little more, Best Buy sells a few brands - the race expo was the first time I had ever seen any, so I bought the first thing I saw - which is so unlike me, but I have been pleased with them.
They have been so worth the investment. I love that I can call DH without taking my phone out and I can hear my text messages while running - DH will text me his location at races (I use a Skivi - Siri for android). I also love using them on my commute on the train - no stupid cord to get in the way.

Yes, I only listen to Pandora - it works great. Unfortunately, I cannot like/dislike a song from the headset, but I can skip a song without touching my phone. It really is great, I actually purchased Pandora One b/c I was listening so much more, b/c the headset makes it so much better.
Have you guys tried RDIO? You can actually choose the song you want, not just the genre. I do think there is a subscription after the -4 day trial, but it's not much, cheaper than downloading songs.
