I ran 15 miles on Sunday with my running group, and it was a pretty hilly route. I woke up on Monday with a substantial amount of outer shin pain. I foam rolled after my 15 miler and I've never had this type of soreness before.
I ran this morning and my shins were still sore. Do I run tomorrow or rest my legs?
Rest, wear compression socks, and try compression sleeves for your runs if the problem persists. BF has the same problem - new shoes have helped, but the sleeves have made the most difference.
obviously the answer is to stop running, get new shoes, and get and MRI. tomorrow if possible.
really, just rest. maybe with some compression socks on, maybe have a glass of wine, see how it works out.
I laughed when this happened to pop up just under the other thread.
Is it soreness or pain? Pain, I'd definitely rest. If it's just sore, you could go either way, but a rest day after a 15 miler wouldn't be the worst thing in the world, ya know? Your body would probably enjoy a rest day.
I had a full rest day on Monday. I posted because I haven't experienced this type of soreness in my legs before and I have consistently been running 35+ miles a week for awhile now. Just worried me a bit:/
Ah, sorry. I misread & thought you ran Monday as well. Is it on the shin bone, or more muscular? Was the route new? My general rule is that soreness is OK, pain warrants rest. Hope you feel better soon!!

The pain is in the muscle (outside of leg, not shin bone). The route was new - I am going to put my compression socks on tonight and try to run again tomorrow morning. Thanks for the advice:)

Good luck! If it makes you feel better, I have some crazy hamstring soreness from my half. That never happens, but there were a lot of factors that made it a different run. Somtimes new routes really work some different muscles. I'm sure your's will appreciate the compression.
Do you have The Stick? It would be worth working out the calf muscle directly behind that area. I find when my shins are tight the calf muscle behind it is usually the culprit.
