A's classmates have been telling her that she has hairy legs (my genes, boo) and she is self conscious about it. My dilemma is that I completely understand her situation BUT I don't want her to feel that when she is teased about something she needs to change herself, I want her to be proud of who she is. That being said, I know she will need to start shaving and I don't want her to do it like I did... I was sneaky and shaved my legs one day before school in 5th grade, I was nine, my Dad pretty much bought me my own razor and showed me how to properly shave that night after my teacher called him because she saw my dry/cut/bloody legs from shaving dry.
I think I was in 5th grade. I was at a friends house and she was doing it, so I went home and asked my mom. Now that I think about it, I feel 10y is SO young, but I didn't when I WAS 10.

Hm, I don't know. I never shaved in school, but I never asked/wanted to either (my legs aren't very hairy naturally and I didn't get any flak about it at school). I'm guessing my mom would have been okay with it starting in middle school or so? I didn't start shaving my legs until I was in my 30s, although I had waxed them before, and I only started doing it then because my wife prefers it.
I was in fifth grade. I begged to shave,I have really dark hair. My mom bought me an electric razor and helped me use it. I am not sure when I started using a razor with a blade. Not long after I would guess.

this just reminded me that I got an electric razor for my 13th birthday. I was so embarrassed.

I was 13 and I literally could have killed my mom. I was getting flak at school and wanted to die of embarrassment. So I would probably let her start, since she asked. Along with a talk about how it's her body, her choice and she doesn't need to shave, especially if she doesn't want to.

I believe I was about 10 years old when my mom bought me an electric razor. That still didn't stop me from shaving before that and cutting my legs up SO badly.
I wish my mom would have taught me how to shave properly before I butchered myself. lol
I was 5th grade. I refused to wear shorts as a kid so I never was teased about that but my friends all talked about so I asked. My mom bought me shaving cream and a razor and taught me how. I rarely did it as it was a PITA but I was allowed if I wanted too. I did have to keep the razor in my moms bathroom and ask for it as I had much younger siblings who I shared a bathroom with.
