Make sure you check what your insurance company covers. Under Obamacare they have to cover something (there may be a few plans still grandfathered in but I think they all had to comply by a certain time). It sometimes is just a manual pump or a basic electric. Even if that is the case you should have the option to make up the difference if you want something nicer.
I LOVE my Medela pump in style. It got me through 13 months of EPing with #1 and I'm almost at a year of pumping 4 times a day with #2. This thing is awesome.
Also, check with your insurance. You should be able to get one for free now. Thanks Obama!!
I called and they don't cover one =( But I was also speaking to an idiot so I should probably call back.
I was posting as you were. I would definitely call back. I think that as soon as plans went into Open Enrollment after the mandatory coverage date (which was maybe October of last year) they had to then cover them. I think there were a few exceptions beyond that but I would definitely push it some with the insurance company. Also, if you have an Health Savings Account (and maybe an FSA I am less familiar with those) you can use that to purchase any breastfeeding supplies even if it isn't covered under insurance.
I got a basic manual pump and used it maybe 5 times. It isn't that it didn't work well, I could pump a bottle in just a few minutes (oversupply!) but I HATED it so much, it made me feel like a cow. So basically, I am just saying, don't invest too much.
A word of caution... you mentioned CL. Make sure the pump is a closed system one or never used. Most non-hospital grade pumps are open system which means if you use a previously used one, that person's bacteria could contaminate your milk.
I would check with your insurer on renting one. I use a Medela PISA. I love it.
ETA: I cant read. You said new and in box. That should work ok then.
I had the Lansinoh double electric pump. It is the same thing as the Ameda pump - same company, same motor, different brands.
I went through FOUR pump motors over the course of 10 months because that thing was such a piece of shit. At the time, I told DH that if we were going to have another kid (we've since decided we're not), we were spending the $300+ on the PIS.
So, I would recommend going with a Medela brand pump.
I loved my Medela Pump In Style Advanced. I used it every day for 9 months and never had an issue. I also bought a Medela Harmony, which is a single manual pump. I kept it by my bed at night and would use it if I got engorged, or to pump the side DD didn't feed from in the middle of the night. I really liked it as well.
No worries! I was looking at the Harmony since I don't expect to need to pump often (but who knows) and its cheap enough that if it doesn't work then I wouldn't feel bad upgrading to a bigger/better pump.
It's great, I loved it. I got close to the same amount using it as I did the PISA, pumping for 15 minutes. I would send you mine but my dog destroyed it :/

I had a hospital grade Medela Lactina (provided to me for 3 months since she was a preemie) and then I used a Medela Pump In Style. For the PIS you will need to make sure you change out the membranes-it makes a huge difference, and it's really loud-especially compared to the lactina. I liked the Medelas and all of their corresponding equipment though.

Now, my kids are 15 and 16, so take my advice with a grain of salt. The Pump-in-style back then was great, and I've actually owned two of them. But if you're planning on doing any significant pumping that first few weeks, you might also want to think about renting a hospital pump for a month or two, even if you have to pay out of pocket. (I have no idea what they cost to rent.) The Pump-in-Style is great, but the hospital pump is omg a cow-milking-machine. I had to pump for the first 10 weeks with my first and I totally attribute the hundreds of stored ounces (no exaggeration) to the fact that the hospital pump was so efficient. Not everyone needs it, for sure, but if you think you might, it might be worth investigating, is all I'm saying.

I'm a SAHM and I loved my PIS. I pumped almost every morning because I had oversupply. It was nice just to pump both sides at once. It's nice to be able to pump a bottle and leave to go workout or run errands not have to worry about running home. You would will use it more then you think.
