My whole damn make-up wearing life, I've been a smokey eye/pale lip kind of girl. It's just how I roll. But I've always envied those people who wander around with a bright lip and a tshirt, looking all effortlessly glamorous.
So, I had a Macy's gift card, and I found myself at the MAC counter, and I allowed myself to be swept up in the idea of a bolder, berry lip. "It makes your eyes pop, omg they look so green," exclaimed the lady. And then she went on to mention how it'd be a good color to transition into fall, blah blah blah. I left feeling lovely and proud of myself.
And today, I feel like a total weirdo. Halp! I can't help feeling like this was a mistake!
Also - I recently started wearing bolder lipsticks last year. It took me some time to get used to them b/c I wasn't comfortable with the OMG BRIGHT! ON MY FACE! bold look.
I transitioned into it by mixing the bright color with some aquaphor and making it lighter/glossier. Then I worked my way up to slicking on the bold color, keeping the rest of the make-up neutral. I don't do it for every day work, but I might get there someday :-)
...and also, I sometimes can do a darker/brighter lip if I apply it with a very light hand. I don't know how to explain it, but I do it so it's kind of sheer. Seems to suit me better.
I'm always afraid to branch out to brighter/darker lip colors. I've gotten compliments whenever I try though. I say fake it til you make it! I bet you look great!
OMG it looks AMAZING!! I seriously love it. What is the name of the colour?
It's called Captive. The liner (lol, i seriously haven't done lipliner in well over a decade, unless it was Halloween or something) is Absolutely It.
You guys would tell me if this was a big no, right? I need to know if it's a no.
I'll have to check it out! You seem to have a much darker/more olive skin tone than me (I'm ghostly white), so we'll see what the person at the counter suggests for me.
It's definitely NOT a no. Trust us. We would tell you if you looked like a clown.
It looks great on you! I don't know why, but I always picture you in dark lipstick. I am shocked to find out you never wear it.
Y'know, this is not the first time I've heard this on the internet! I own a couple that I attempt and then shy away from. I tend to gravitate toward lip colors that are lighter than my actual lips. But I am going to force myself to wear this until it feels right. I think. lol. I might be back to my old tricks by the weekend.

It looks good! I, too, am finally being more adventurous with lip colors.
I bought MAC's lip glass in Rebel (they have a lipstick, too) and then bought liner (which it's amazing how much liner helps!) in Beet. The color looks super purple in the packaging, but the lip gloss is nice because you can make it as light or dark as you like.
