I am new to running but "healthy and uninjured." My first race....a 10k is this Saturday. I am already thinking about running a half on Dec 1st. Why? To check it off my bucket list and I want to make running part of my healthy lifestyle. Up until last year, I'd only been doing DVD exercises.
I live in Seattle...last winter I ran outside for 2 miles and it was too cold for me (37 degrees) that I only ran the rest of the year on the treadmill.
Also, how do you mama's run long distance with your tots in the jogger? Mine will sit for a max of an hour before she throws a fit. I do bring snacks. Also I don't particularly like running while pushing a jogger. I am barely 5'2" and barely 100lbs and my Bob just feels huge! Any suggestions? Just get used to it?
I think yes, technically you could safely increase your mileage by December 1. The question is whether you'll be comfortable enough running in cold weather. If you were able to do only a couple miles last winter before needing to quit, I hesitate to really encourage you to do it. Why don't you try racing a shorter distance this winter (5K or another 10K) and save a half for the spring or next year?
Were you cold because you didn't have appropriate gear? Because 37 isn't really cold enough to bail for most. Training solely on a tm sounds like hell... Some people do it successfully, but I'm a big believer in running the surface you will race.
I think you can safely move from 10k to half by December 1. That's like 12 or 13 weeks from now, isn't it?

Basically all of this. Even this FL girl will run when it's 37*. I can't comment on the jogging stroller, but are you a member of a gym? Can you drop her off at the daycare and then head out for a run from the gym? I wouldn't solely train on the treadmill.
