As if this day couldn't get worse...I just checked May's blood results online and it looks like the levels are low, which google tells me indicates anemia. This just plays into my food guilt, bc I cannot get this child to eat any meat, eggs, or beans. I definitely am going to up her peanut butter and spinach intake. Anyway, I'm obviously going to talk to her doctor and maybe start a supplement, if he says to, but I was just wondering it any other babies were diagnosed with anemia?
Luke does. We were using mykidz supplement but now I need a different brand since its been out of stock I want iron plus multi vitamin since he needs D too
Mia was and she didn't like the drops. Putting them in a little juice helped, but timing was sucky because it can't be close to this or that. Real PITA. I started upping her iron rich foods and luckily when she was retested she was one point over. Good luck, hopefully you will find some more things she will eat. I don't know if you are pro/anti pouch but I found some with higher iron and used those to supplement.

P is an awesome eater, so she didn't have a problem. However, B was diagnosed with anemia at nine months and was okay by twelve months after taking supplements with iron for a few months. He is still a picky eater, but he does get enough iron now.

This and we use this too. I'm anemic and struggled with iron levels during pregnancy so I wasn't surprised.
Or did you just get an iron level? I tested myself (where I work) and was slightly low in March. I re-tested once done w/ BF and all and I am back to normal. I didn't even change my diet so I am guessing had to do with BF. For LO, I'd imagine I would add iron-rich foods (red meat!) depending on how low a level it was.

It was 8.7 and 29. It says normal levels should be between 10.5-13.5 and 33-39.

Hmm, that is pretty darn low. I imagine your doctor will put her on supplements.

What was her H&H? Give me the MCV and MCHC if you know that too.
our values don't list those kinds of letters... we have a test for Iron Serum and TIBC, Ferritin and Transferrin Ref. Is it one of those tests? All 3 of those are way lower than the suggested amounts though
Iron, ferritin, and transferrin all have to do with the body's level of iron. H&H is just hemoglobin and hematocrit, which is what was tested, with the LO's Hemoglobin being 8.9
The H&H, MCV,MCHC are all parameters measuring Red Blood Cells which are made up of Hemoglobin, which in turn is made up of iron. So that is how it is all tied in. If you are low in iron, you cannot make up as much blood, so your H&H drops. 8.9 isn't awful, but it is low and needs to be addressed is all.
