I put myself on care.com. My husband and I had a looooong talk, and decided that I need to leave my current job. It's a long story, but it's just not healthy for me to be there. I am currently enrolled in a ECE class so I can start earning units to work in a preschool again. In the meantime, I'm looking to babysit/nanny for a family that will allow me to keep J with me, to make a little extra money for savings. The problem is that I have no idea what to charge, and people are asking. I feel like I should charge less since I will have my own kid too. I live in so cal, so pretty high cost of living. Can someone tag jayhawkali? I know she does this exact thing. Maybe dahli too because I know she used a nanny out here. Please don't share personal income /output if not comfortable ladies, I'm just looking for a range. Thanks!
I'm going to start watching my friends daughter for about $10 an hour. We haven't set a price yet but that's what we've been discussing. When I nannied 4/5 years ago I got $12 an hour for twins.

No clue on the price, but I would be glad to have a nanny with a child, to provide socialization for DS. I think it is a perk :-). I would probably want to pay a little less than the going nanny rate (maybe 10-15% less).

I charge $10-12 I used to charge $15 before Brady. It's nice because I have two families a Tuesday Thursday family that I have nannied for off and on since 2008 and a Monday Wednesday family that has an 11 month old. Its nice because they nap at the same time like right now I have a little break. They love Brady and Brady loves a change in environment then our house. I don't so taxes but can send you a link if you need how to so the taxes. I found the Monday Wednesday family on sitter city. I found that less people use sitter city so I got more responses. I emailed/ applied probably 5-8 families a day from both sites total until I found the right one for us. I used to work in a preschool prior to going back to nannying before I had Brady
Things to also think about or might come up in interviews. What is your plan if Jaxon is sick? Are they/ you comfortable with you taking them places. My Tuesday Thursday family are 4/5 so I have school pick ups dance play dates etc to work into but she always rounds up if I drive a lot with the kids for gas. The Monday Wednesday family has a great park and splash pad within walking distance and occasionally we drive to the library. Will they pay you for holidays or vacations they take? Just a few off the top of my head. I've been bringing Brady along since he was 5 months old

Thank you! Can I ask what you do when Brady is sick? Are the parents understanding and you take a day off, or do you just keep all the kids home? This is the only thing I don't know the answer to. I guess it would also depend on the level of sickness too.
It only happened twice. My tues thursdayfamily the mom sets her own schedule so she just rearranged it he had an upper resp infection. So after 24 hours on antibiotics we were back just like daycare. The other time was an ear infection and my husband watched him and the dad took a half day. Small colds and teething fevers I brought him with moms approval.
Call me ignorant but why exactly do you have to charge/pay less when your own child is involved?
I charge less because I consider it a nanny share in a way. Because your kid isn't getting the 1 on 1 care that they would get if they paid $15 an hour. A friend of mine nannies for a large family of 4 kids they let her bring her school age daughter but pay the same rate as without her daughter because her daughter is only there on school breaks. Also I lowered my wage to make it easier to find a part time family so I could keep my long term family of 4/6 year olds
