I don't understand any of the judgment. She's an entertainer. Of course she wants attention. She was once cute and cuddly and now she's going all the way the other way. She's following a career arc/life arc that so many child turned adult entertainers follow.
I don't disagree with anything she's doing. It's entertaining. It's certainly garnered a lot of attention.
As far as I know she hasn't taken a baseball bat to a vehicle or needed to go to rehab or been in trouble with the law. Please let me know if that's been the case.
I think it went past entertaining. When people in the audience, and at home, are actually cringing in embarrassment, it's taken the entertainment factor out. That's why it's caused so much controversy. Don't get me wrong, I have no doubt that she's loving all the attention right now, it's nothing but good for her career. It's just that no one else is loving it.
Just an addition, but it was on the ABC news and that picture of Will Smith and family gasping, it was for Lady Gaga, or so they reported.
I don't know. I think if Madonna did this no one would care. No one would think anything of it.

Madonna has earned the right to be eccentric and embarrassing at this point. Miley is nothing but a stupid talentless little girl. Not exactly apples to apples.
Madonna is a fabrication.
Miley is a derivative fabrication.
Madonna doesn't exactly have the strongest pipes either if it's vocal talents were discussing. Madonna pushed the same buttons, the only thing is she can claim she was an original pusher and not fourth or fifth down the line.
I think people are offended because they bought into an idea of her (Miley) being a sweetheart and then she stomped on that image and discarded it and people feel betrayed.

I disagree.
Gaga is derivative without being totally disgusting.
Miley's performance was not so shocking to me, but it was gross and stupid.
There is some artistry to both Madonna's and Gaga's work.

I don't think so. At least, this isn't true for me. The first song I ever heard from Miley was Party in the USA and she had already been trying to shed her image at that point (she'd already had a few tattoos). I've never paid any attention to her before she chopped off all her hair. Madonna has/had actual talent to back up her antics. Miley is doing these antics because she doesn't have talent (as a performer) so she resorts to them. And it's hard to watch because it just feels so desperate.
It may be desperate, but is it worthy of vilification? Because that seems to be the tone.
What? No. This post is stupid. Gwen Stefani and her harajuku girls are not racist either.
It just seems wrong to use people as props because of their race. Especially the harajuku girls- they didn't dance or sing or talk, they just followed her around. Like they were an accessory.
At least the girls on stage with Miley were dancing. But then also being groped.
Madonna did a lot of shit back in the day that offended and shocked a lot of people too, though. And there were plenty of folks who considered her talentless as well.
I dunno. I also think Miley's performance was gross and stupid, but she got the attention she wanted.

Well I'm not anti-gross or seemingly stupid when it comes to entertainment. I think gross and stupid can have their place in entertainment.
She might unknowingly be saying something without realizing it. Or there's the off-chance she knows exactly what she's saying/conveying. She has everyone atwitter over this bland performance, over fluff.

don't forget about this shit, and how quickly that video was pulled.

Possibly, because I think she knows exactly what she is doing. She was the world's most tweeted about person yesterday. At one point she had over 300,000 tweets in a minute. She's hot right now and the offers, I have no doubt, are pouring in. People are going to tune in to whatever she does just to see if it's as bad or worse that this last performance. And I think resorting to that over talent may just be a reason for vilification.
I don't think she's doing anything that hasn't been done before.
Nothing that seems to merit the negativity being thrown her way.
I mean if you want to discuss people who are vile and opportunistic in a way that deserves real criticism, there are those people, but they're thieves, taking what is not rightfully theirs.
She is not. No one stole anyone's time, no forced anyone to witness her performance. People willingly watched. If people didn't want to see it they would have changed the channel or turned off the TV at some point.
I think my point somehow got lost. I don't care about the dancing (for the record, leaning over and shaking your ass =\= twerking), the outfit, the tongue.
I care about the fact that she's surrounding herself with hired women, the majority of whom (if not all, as was the case in this performance) are black, and using them as a way to further some image she's created for herself. While reducing them to nothing more than butts meant for slapping and grabbing on stage.

I understand your point. I think there are some ladies on CEP that agree with you.
I think she's an ignorant dumbass who has found an unintentionally offensive gimmick. She thinks she's pulling off Madonna/Lady Gaga levels of outrageous, grown up wildness.
I thought this was her dancing with a snake moment. Next stop, psychotic break and a head shave. Tick tock Miley.
