Would you consider feeding raw? I know feeding slightly too much raw really put weight on our dog (accidentally) quickly.
Absolutely, I will consider just about anything!
Nice. I've fed both Bravo and Primal pre-mixed raw and both are good for both cats and dogs. Our dog loves it. When we first transitioned him, we fed too much and he ended up gaining 6 pounds in about 6 months. OOOPPPS!!
Is Primal the freeze dried kind? We tried something that I thought was called Primal and it came in a cube and I had to add water but he wouldn't eat it. Are these food sold in pet stores or do I need to order online?
All three of mine gained significant weight (one needed it, one definitely didn't) on Nature's Instinct kibble in rabbit. Pretty sure they just REALLY liked the taste of it. They all went crazy over it.

I've been wondering this too. Our one cat Pippen is supposed to gain weight, although at the same time Jinx is supposed to lose weight and they both free feed so I'm still trying to figure out the logistics of making that happen lol

Switch to timed feedings. It's better for dogs for a number of reasons.

When my cat needed weight or vet suggested feeding him meat baby foods. He loved eating them and they have a lot of calories and no fillers. He's now at a much better weight.

We did this when DS's cat had his stroke. But he had food allergies, so we have to swap for Royal Canin canned duck and pea. Prior to that, I poached and processed a duck for him weekly- I needed the smooshy stuff for his pills.
My mother's 21 year old cat would eat a few inches on Nutrical nightly. He was mildly hyperthyroid.

We supplement with the hypo allergenic Royal Canin dry food and do baby food for special dinners. It makes the kitty really happy. He has IBD so we have to watch his food.
There are prescription foods that are 1) super tasty for kitties who aren't eating and 2) higher in calories. Also, nutrical can be beneficial.
Do you know WHY your cat has lost weight? Something that alarming needs a full workup. It could be a tumor, kidney failure, hepadic lipodosis (fatty liver disease), IBS, or a number of other things.
We just had one cat diagnosed with high ionized calcium and moderate IBS. She needed several bladder stones removed and is now on a steroid after recovering. She also needs B-12 shots. It's helped, but it's early, so we'll see.
Our cat with Chronic Renal Failure (kidney disease) needed to be hand fed to get enough calories each day, with a syringe. He ate on his own, just not enough.
If your cat is being really picky and it's becoming problematic, I find that most cats will eat Fancy Feast, no matter what.
