Speaking of terminology, I was thinking about this randomly the other day.
DH calls it "right side out". I tend to just say "the right way" ("put it on the right way") but sometimes I use "right side out" or "outside out" in being specific for my kids.
I've been wondering if there's an actual phrase for this. Inside in? Outside out? What do you use?
I say right side out. Wouldn't right side in mean the same thing as inside out?
I always assumed that it meant inside in. As in, the side that is meant to be in would be in. So right side out and right side in are just two ways of saying the same thing, but I wondered if one of them (or something else) was the most common.
Isn't there a "right side" on fabric? I always thought the right side is the side with the pattern or color and the inside is the faded out back of the fabric. So right side in would be inside out and right side out is inside in.
see, at first right side in looked good to me. then i made up a conversation in my head and realized that i actually say right side out. which makes sense. since either the INside is out or the RIGHT side is out.

Right Side In and Right Side Out are opposites. For example, fabric has a right side and a wrong side. The "right" side is the side that is supposed to be showing/facing out/the side people see. The "wrong" side is the inside or the back side. So "Right Side In" means the design is inside, or not viewable. "Right Side Out" means the design is on the outside where it's supposed to be.
So "Inside Out" is "wrong side out" or "Right Side In." "Right Side Out" is "Inside In" or "wrong side in."
Say you have a fabric purse with red outside and blue inside fabric. Right Side Out is red side out. Wrong Side Out/Inside Out/Right Side In is the red side in or blue side out.
Right Side Out is the opposite of inside out/wrong side out/right side in.
(Unless you mistyped the last sentence. Did you mean wrong/in side out and right side in?)

Right side out. I'm loling that taboo made a wall of text to say that in sewing when you put "right" sides together you are putting together the sides that should be seen.
