I cleaned out our attic last weekend and have advertised for a garage sale this Sat. a.m. Nothing that came out of the attic is going back in, so it's all going to donation sites or the garbage.
One particular concern I have is all the light fixtures from our remodeling. We removed some semi-nice fixtures (we probably paid $300+ for each when new and used them for varying times, from 1 to 5 years). We did try to sell them in a previous sale, and we've posted them on CL a few times with no bites. I really don't want to put them in the garbage. I guess I could post them for free on CL, but I'd like to be able to deduct them if possible. I'm not certain Goodwill will take them (does anyone know?); any other suggestions? I don't think we have any Habitat stores around here.
It's really hard to match left-over fixtures with new projects, in different homes. If you post it for free, you'll get some handi takers. Consider that a victory.
Yeah, I'd probably do that along with CL/free. I'm really hoping for the deduction so that's my least favorite option :/ I guess I'll just cross my fingers that they sell at the garage sale so I don't have to worry about them anymore after Saturday!

I'm pretty sure Goodwill will take them. You can call and ask. I know there's another thrift store in my area that has them. (I'm not sure I've seen light fixtures at Goodwill but I don't go often enough or early enough to see the REALLY good stuff they might have.)
I will call Goodwill, but for some reason I thought I'd asked before and they said no (could be mis-remembering or thinking of SA). Thanks for the web site rec, I'll check it out.
Yeah just donate them. Then again, I'm not one to get wrapped up in the finances of my stuff. I want the sh*t gone and I want it gone now. LOL.
Is there a local thrift store in your area? My Goodwill is ridiculously fussy so much so that I just gave up. However, our church runs a thrift store and I take most everything there as they take anything. Some of it they resell to make church money, some of it goes to low income families in transition/need and some of it they donate/pass on to other charities that might need it...it's great!
