Mr. GT is running the Va Beach half relay this weekend and I wanted to watch the transition, but all the race info makes it sound like it is impossible to reach the transition via car. Does anyone know if this is true or if I could park close enough and walk to the transition area. My other idea is to just run from the start line to the transition area. It looks like I can cut off 1/2 to 1/3 of he course and make it there before him, assuming I can cross over the course midway.
I am. Sorry I missed this earlier! I didn't notice where the transition was last year, but let me look at the course map and ask my family where they parked (and walked from) last year. I saw them 2x while I was running the half and I think it was pretty close to the middle. I'll follow up this afternoon.
Where are you staying? Your best option to avoid road closures should be to come off I264 at Birdneck Road and head toward Dam Neck Road.
My family parked off Birdneck, near Ocean Breeze water park, last year and they were able to walk to the 5 mile marker/10 mile marker. According to the map, it looks like you can continue walking down Birdneck straight past the 5/10 mile marker, down to the transition area. The course loops around a bit, but I'm pretty sure you can walk straight through. Maybe you can see him twice! .
I hope this helps. Let me know if you have any questions and I am happy to help!

A few blocks down from the finish line. I am currently sitting on our balcony listening to the Barenaked Ladies playing on the concert stage and if I look the other way I can see the finish line.
I'm assuming if we wanted to drive we'd need to move a car before the race started.
