I headed out for a trail run today. I was hoping for 20-22 miles and was using this run to see if I could pull off a 50K race in 4 weeks. I live near the race course so I decided to run part of the course. Its a trail race so of course it was all on trails. Trails that I should know by heart...
...but I'm an idiot and got lost trying to stay on the race course and tacked up about 3 extra miles.
I was running 2 loops and got the course right the second time but my in ability to navigate in the first loop put me at 25.1 miles when I got back to my car. Yea, way too close to 26.2 not to go for it.
The last mile was the hardest...harder than all the other miles combined. It wasn't my legs, it was my stomach. I actually stopped twice just because I thought I was going to puke. I guess that is what I get for adding on an extra hour of running when I hadn't really planned for it fuel-wise. Duh.
But I survived! And once I got back to my car and sucked down cold water and powerade I was all better.
So yea...I ran a marathon today, kind of on accident.
Definitely was not the best plan, but I think its safe to say I'll be running a 50K next month!
That is pretty sweet. And this from the girl who claimed Fargo was her last 26.2?? And now you're going to do an ULTRA?!!
Its the darn runners out here in CO - they are all crazy! One of them is actually working his way through a 1,000 mile challenge right now...he has been running since Tuesday and is at 250+ miles right now, at least 1 mile every hour! And another is currently talking me into a 50miler for next spring. Damn crazy runners!
