I'm making a Poison Ivy costume for NY Comic-con. I ordered 2 base dresses from American Apparel to decide what one to build upon. The one I liked more was on sale (#1) and said limited stock, so when I got the shipping notification that only dress #2 shipped I just assumed that I wouldn't be getting dress #1. I resigned myself to this, removed the tags and started getting other items to go with dress #2 when I unexpectedly got shipping notification for dress #1.
Neither dress can be returned as 1 was clearance and I removed the tags on 2. I like the color, length and fabric of 1 better, but I like the sleeves of 2 and I already spent about $24 to get a matching corset to go with it. I dislike that I wouldn't be able to wear a normal bra with 1 but think its more comfortable. I dislike that I need help getting dressed with 2 and that its awkward to sit in. Adding ivy to 1 will be easier since its one piece and it would be more visually dynamic, but I'm annoyed I've already spent money I can't get back on 2.
If the rest of your group is going in classic comic style costumes, then #1. But I think that #2 could be turned into a really awesome steampunk style Poison Ivy if you wanted to go that route. Kind of like this:

I agree with most, #1, the second doesn't look poison ivy to me. i couldn't imagine her in green velvet, i always see her shown in form fitting sleeveless with gloves. The second one would make a great steam punk, or Renascence type poison ivy.
