sewing with burlap coffee sacks

How do I prepare the coffee sack for sewing? Just use iron on interfacing? I want to make a tote bag and usually use Decor Bond since it is stiff. Would this work or is there some secret about sewing with burlap I should know?

You can try interfacing the edges that will be seams- but, I think I'd do bound seams or french seams for strength with such a fray-prone fabric in a tote. Binding them could really be cute for some color/interest
