Hi all, I'm a lurker coming over from H&F (and way back when from the Nest pet boards). Our furbaby Chloe, a 10yo yellow lab is going in tomorrow for her 2nd ACL surgery. Her other leg was operated on in January of this year, and I know they say once one goes the 2nd is highly likely- but we were hoping it would be longer than 9 months. We are nervous but know we're doing the right thing for her, and at least we know what to expect. She had an excellent outcome from surgery #1, and seeing her run free this summer for the first time post-surgery made it all worth it.
She's enjoying a Kong before the midnight food cutoff (which, for a Lab , is just plain cruel)
If you don't mind sending good thoughts her way tomorrow I'd appreciate it.

Not sure if you'll see this, but I found your post in a search. My dog just tore his other ACL after getting a TPLO in January. He had a rough recovery and was just starting to get his fixed leg back to normal. I'm not sure we can stomach the cost ($3200) of a second TPLO, and we are worried about putting him through surgery again. Did you do TPLO for both legs, and have you been happy with the results?

Hi, I'm so sorry about your dog's knees. Yes we did tplo on both. And about the same price... Ouch. With her size (53 lbs) and activity level (active lab) it was seemingly the better choice for us. Her first surgery we had a month between injury and surgery so we'd found a place that does k9 swim therapy so she would be able to get some exercise while waiting, and it was so great we took her for Post surgery swims after a couple weeks and we were amazed at how well she healed up. I'm not sure what types of complications your guy had with surgery 1, but with her first surgery she got a morphine patch on her back and it was horrible. Second surgery we went with just pain pills and it was a completely different experience. She took a bit longer to toe touch, but otherwise she was like her old self almost from day 1. We did all the ice and stretching exercises, etc. Please let me know if I can answer any more questions.... Good luck to you and your boy.

I may be too late in my response, but.... Our lab just had her second TPLO also. The recovery this time around has seemed MUCH easier. Her first one was almost two years ago, so her first leg has had plenty of time to heal. I'm sorry you're dealing with this again.
