I like YA, especially w/ female heroines, but I could take or leave dystopian/sci-fi/fantasy plots. Because I'm anal and will probably need to read all 3 for closure, I'm looking for recommendations before I invest in it. Thoughts?
I just read Matched and the 2nd book in the trilogy, Crossed, last weekend. I liked them well enough. Not as good as Divergent (sadly I haven't been able to get ahold of Insurgent yet!) and just as good as the first two books in the Chemical Garden trilogy (Wither and Fever.) I will read the 3rd book in the Matched trilogy when it comes out because I want to know how it ends.
I kind of put the Matched and Chemical Gardens books into the slightly trashy young adult dystopian romance category. They are not amazing works of literature by any stretch, but entertaining for a quick read and up my ally since I love stuff like this.
Can't wait to read Delirium based on the reviews I've seen of it.
I enjoyed Matched but I didn't care for the second one at all. It felt like it was mostly filler to me. I enjoyed the series as a whole well enough that I will probably read the third at some point, but it isn't a novel I'm anticipating.
If you like YA with female heroines I'd suggest pretty much anything by Tamora Pierce. She does write fantasy, not dystopian, if that makes a difference to you.
I liked Matched, but really had trouble focusing on Crossed. I listened to them so that may have made a difference. I'll listen to the third one just to finish it out, but I don't have very high hopes for it at this point.
