When is a nice time to visit Boston?

My H and I would like to visit Boston at some point. This may be our last "big" vacation before we have a baby.  

What time of year would you recommend going?

This is in the very early stages of planning here, so I have no idea yet what we want to do while there.

Summers and winters in Boston can be brutal. I love Boston in the fall when the leaves are changing, especially if you can get a bit north of the city. I was there in February this year and it was brutally cold. Wheni got back from my trip, I told h " whenever I say I want to move back to Boston remind me of this trip when it was -20 below.".

If you like chaos the St Patricks Day can be very fun in Boston.

I agree with others. Fall and Spring are good times to visit, fall being the better of the two.

Late September is so nice. I would say early September, but the back-to-school rush can be a little crazy.

Fall is perfect. The air is crisp, there are fewer crowds, and the leaves in the parks are changing.

Early may or sept. you can go to a beach when it isn't crowded. Catch a red sox game.

Keep in mind that Labor Day weekend and the last week of May can be tough with congestion in the city/finding hotel rooms becsuse of all the colleges and move-in day/graduation.
