I have never been to the beaches. We loved the Fulton Lane Inn in the historic district.
My biggest suggestion for Charleston is to leave plenty of time for wandering around the historic district, King Street, City Market, and the Battery. I love just wandering around gawking at the gorgeous homes. I also think the carriage tours are fun. Your tour will vary based on the guide and route you are assigned, but I had a good experience both times I did a tour.
I find it hard to have a bad meal in Charleston. My favorites are 82 Queen and Fast and French. I ate at Magnolia's for a wedding reception and thought it was just ok, but it could have been because it was wedding food and not the regular menu.
If you don't have one near you, Sticky Fingers is a BBQ chain that DH and I really like. They have a location downtown that might be good for a quick, low key lunch. I love their dry rub ribs and mustard based BBQ sauce. I generally wouldn't throw out a chain, but it's the first meat-centric restaurant that came to mind since you aren't seafood eaters and that's generally what I fill up on.
I agree with pp, definitely spend time in Charleston. It is an awesome city, one of our favorites. We loved Magnolia's, have been there twice. Husk and Fig are the two you should try to get into, they are amazing.
My two favorite charleston restaurants are 82 queen and hanks.
Although, I made the mistake of sitting outside for dinner at 82 queen in September once and my legs were covered with mosquito bites by the time I was done.
