Do you watch any TV shows based on books/book series, e.g., Orange is the New Black, Game of Thrones, True Blood, etc.? What are your favorites? Are there any you end up liking better on TV?
I think my status as a Sookie/True Blood fan has been established previously, and I've tried watching OITNB, but wasn't immediately hooked.
I've recently become obsessed with The Mindy Project. It's not based on her book, but a lot of the writing is similar, and clearly the Mindy character is based upon real-life Mindy Kaling. What I really like about the show is that it references romantic comedies, both movies and books like Bridget Jones' Diary and Jane Austen (especially Emma).
Friday night Lights. It is off the air now, but my husband and I are working our way through the series (I have seen it all, he'd only seen the last 2 seasons). Such a damn good show.
I also watch True blood, but I am a season behind because I don't have HBO and just buy the DVDs.
Pretty little liars, although I haven't read any of the last few Books.
I didn't even know Orange is the New Black was based on a book, so I'm not sure which other ones I'm missing! That said, I haven't been watching a ton of TV lately so I can't think of anything recently where I've read the book and seen the show to be able to compare.
The entire reason we have HBO is to watch Game of Thrones. My husband is a little obsessed.
I've read Sookie Stackhouse and I watch True Blood (just watched the whole series thusfar this summer), but they're SO different, especially as the series goes on.
I've watched a couple episodes of OITNB, and I liked it enough to come back to it at some time. I've seen a few True Blood episodes, and could not see the draw (except for the eye candy, of course). I'm trying to stay with Under the Dome. I loved loved loved the book, but am having a hard time staying interested in the show. I don't see how they'll make it last another season.
I used to watch Bones, and I liked the show better than the book I read. I also watched Roswell, and I think the first season at least was better than the books. The later seasons... Possibly a toss-up.

I watch mainly BBC/PBS productions based on books -- Hercule Poirot, Ms. Marple, Sherlock Holmes and similar ones. The second series of Miss Fisher's Murder Mysteries is airing here in Australia and I'm really enjoying it, though some of the stores are not based on books, but just the characters. I also watched Perry Mason with my mom, though I think those are based on the characters not the books as such.

I watch Bones but have never read the books. I watched Roswell but never knew it was based on books.

Me too. I think we're six episodes behind. Of course, that's mostly because we binged watched Breaking Bad in order to catch up before the finale, but also because we're just not that into it.
I watch GoT, but I'm starting to get annoyed as it diverges more and more from the books. They started off so identical, that I think it set my standards too high, and now I'm all, "But that's not riiiiiight!!!!"
