what can you tell me about it? I REALLY want to visit.
do you think Lana'i is worth it? I have no real desire to go there, but I know nothing about it.
H and I have talked recently about trying to see more of the islands. We've been to all the other "major" islands so my thought was to explore the more rural islands.

They are completely opposite!
Moloka`i is great if you're outdoorsy and like to camp, fish, hike, etc. There aren't nice hotels or fancy restaurants, but I'm sure you could find a condo or vacation rental, and there are more places to eat and buy food than on Lana`i. I mean, you can hit up the bakery in the middle of the night for hot bread!
I don't find it as pretty as some of the other islands, but I've never seen Kalaupapa, which I imagine is pretty cool; you can hike down. I also wouldn't choose it if you just want to lay on the beach because the beaches are better on other islands.
It may have a reputation for being unfriendly to tourists, which I don't think is fair. The people who live there like a laid-back lifestyle, so they resist any kind of development that would attract tourists.
And it's a short flight
I enjoyed Lana`i when I went, but it was a splurge. I like the scenery and temperature (it's cooler), and it's hard to complain about 4S accomodations! But there really isn't a lot to do besides golf, explore the town (which takes no more than two hours, lol) and eat expensive food. Again, the beaches are nothing special compared to other islands. I would recommend it for a romantic getaway, but I think you would prefer Moloka`i, especially with a kid.
I want to go to Moloka'i, too! stealthmom Don stayed there for awhile on his boat. I still have his number, and I'm sure he'd be happy to share info he may have.
I really don't care much about Lana'i as I'd never spend that much on a hotel. Plus, friends of mine grew up there and have dissuaded me from visiting.
