I have a bit of a dilemma. The dance recital is this Saturday. One is at 1pm the other is at 6pm. Tonight & tomorrow are dress rehearsals.
I feel like I need to go to be supportive of my students & direct them on stage, but I'm running into a roadblock with this LO.
I am BF. I was hoping to be able to pump by now so that I didn't need to bring him with me. The pedi said not yet.
I don't want tons of people touching & breathing on him, which I know will happen if I bring him with me, but that seems like my only option if I go.
The school is about a half hour away, so it would be difficult to go & come back in time for him to eat. Plus, I think he's going through a growth spurt. He's been wanting to eat more often than the 2 1/2-3 hours he was doing.

That's a tough one. I think ultimately you have to do what is best for your baby, even if it means not being there for your students. Is there anyway you can go for a while each day and have your H come with you so he can keep the baby away from grubby hands, but bring him to you when your ds needs nursing?
Happy Birthday, by the way. Hope you have a ugly couch free home today.
I have found that I have the baby people have been very respectful of asking before they get too close, especially when she was very young (now not so much, now she gets passed around like a football and she loves it with arms wide open). I think most people can tell from your body language if he's up for grabs or not. That being said, for the times where mine was nursing a lot (growth spurts, cluster feeding) I ended up just staying home and missing a bridal shower and a couple other things because they just weren't at conducive places to comfortably nurse. It's a tough call. I think you're fine either way. If you don't go people will understand. If you do "most" people will be respectful.
I brought him to class with me on Tues. it was only for an hour & a half & he was fine. He slept in his carrier the whole time. The kids didn't bother with him at all. The only problem I had was when I walked in the door, some mom (who I barely know) started touching him & lifted her small DD up to look at the baby too. Her DD was a little closer than I would have liked. I tried to keep moving.
I was going to suggest a carrier. I didn't know you had one. Would you be comfortable nursing if you were covered up? Around your students, even if you were covered up?
By carrier, I meant the car seat carrier, not like a Mobi. I looked into getting a Mobi type carrier but they all say the baby has to be 8lbs.
The sales person at Buy Buy Baby couldn't give me a reason why, even if I had him in the sling position. I figured I probably shouldn't chance it. There must be some reason.

I wore my girls from 6-7 lbs on. I suppose it is because of neck position? If you are heart to heart, there shouldn't be a problem. I would go ahead an invest in one now, though. I use mine as a ringsling set up now and it is AWESOME for a hip carry. I pull a baby out of a car seat, if she is sleeping, they usually stay asleep as I put them in the sling and then they sleep on my shoulder. Best.feeling.ever.

I would feel much more comfortable with it if I could wear him, but like you said, not sure that's an option. Maybe put him in his carsest with a blanket or one of those mesh bug covers over it, to discourage people from touching him.

I would definitely consider the Moby. I know a lot of people who use them under 8 pounds. I think that's a better option than some of the other carriers and will definitely keep people at a distance from him.
I decided not to go today (being my birthday), but go tomorrow. Does anyone have experience with this? www.buybuybaby.com/product.asp?SKU=131827& It says it's good for premature babies.

No experience with it but I know a lot of moms who love them. They are also highly recommended for babies with Down syndrome versus the traditional carriers, so I have many friends that have them and swear by it. Carriers tend to hold their value pretty well so if you ended up hating it or not using it much you could likely resell it with out much, if any, loss.

Junie has one for Josh. I think she likes it so far
