I know that you are all tired of my whining, but really, I have no one else to tell.
::Back Story:: For the event I plan, a local radio station contacted us, and is partnering with us to put on a huge show. The radio station is looking for sponsorships to cover their portion of the expense (it comes with advertising, blah, blah, blah). There is a committee formed, and their sole purpose is to support the event. One of the members got the sponsorship form from the radio station and sent it out to the members that they should purchase a sponsorship. My office in no way asked for the sponsorship, the money would not come to us, and really, the only way that it helps us is because it helps the radio station and hopefully they'll still be into hosting the event with us in the future.
The kicker is that this group has been bitching for years that we need to have this show at the event. FOR YEARS. And now we've got it. And this is the idiocy that this ass comes up with.
I came in this morning to this e-mail:
When the decision was made (and by whom), what were the proposed funding sources for this event?
Did they not materialize and if so where did they fall short.
I do not have a problem with assisting financially, but think we should then be involved in the decision making.
Do not want this to be a precedence - event is booked, money is short, go the committee as they are an easy touch.
Would have been nice if someone had come to the last meeting to lay out the issue and make the request.
I would think that is the hoob's role.
We had talked at our last meeting of spending some of our money on promotion, in order to get the word out to a broader audience and starting a little earlier with the PR.
If we are to assist financially I would limit. And in the future we be contacted earlier in the process.
It sounds like you are in the same position I am in. I work for a non-profit and it is a nightmare dealing with committees and boards. I feel your pain!
