Is anyone else sensitive to hair dye?

For the past 5ish years I have had a reaction when I dye my hair. My scalp gets itchy and rashy for a few days after having it done. My stylist has tried using different brands if dye but that doesn't seem to help. It's so irritating that I only get it done a few times per year now, and I hate my natural color. Anyone else? Have you found anything that helps?

I have had a really bad allergic reaction to hair color. It also caused a 2 year flare in my psoriasis which was AWFUL. I haven't colored my hair in years pretty much because of it.

Have you considered trying vegetable dyes? I know it's a little crunchy, but it might be less hard on your skin.

My hair dresser mixes a pack of sweet and low in and it works for some reason and I don't get that burning feeling.

Now that you mention it, I think someone suggested this to me before. I will ask her to try it next time.

They work well, but only last through 28 shampoos or so (though I understand that they tend to last longer the more you do them). You can do it as often as you want, though, since there is no ammonia or peroxide, and your hair will just get extra soft and shiny.

Definitely don't shampoo the day of a color. The oils on your scalp will help to protect it. I usually don't wash mine for 2-3 days before a color. And sweet and low in the color really does help also.

I have never noticed a rash or anything, but when I go darker it burns my scalp so bad I can barely stand it.

Does it help after the fact or just while you are in the chair? Mine doesn't bother me when I'm getting it done. It starts the next day.

It's helped the next day too. I used to get sores and had burning the next day or two and it hardly ever happens anymore. I also don't wash my hair that day and sometimes the day before.

Yes. And my hair is falling out like crazy. I don't know what to do, other than stop dying my hair. (I didn't make the connection until the last time I got it done and had to take a Benadryl.
