We had one because grandma gave it to Owen. We used it a couple times, mostly for frozen things when his gums hurt. Once I read about baby-led weaning, I realized I could just give him food and didn't bother with the mesh feeder.
I have only tried it with banana. It seemed like DD had to suck on it awhile before she really got the idea and started gumming it and mashing the banana.
We just do BLW instead and she's never choked or gagged, so I probably won't bother with the mesh feeders again, unless maybe we're out somewhere and I want to limit the mess.
We used one for teething. It was awesome to put pieces of frozen fruit in or even an entire ice cube.
Eventually, we figured out a frozen bagel worked like a charm, too, though (for teething issues). So, I'm not sure if I would use it again with a second kid. I'm having a hard time thinking of another situation besides teething in which I thought the mesh feeder was awesome. It's been a while...
We used it once with a banana and I just felt like it made the experience a million times messier. I didn't want to attempt cleaning it so I threw it out.

We just did it with soften peaches (10 seconds in the microwave this time) and she loved it. Maybe because she is teething? It wasnt hard to clean. Since I am paranoid about her choking and freak when she gags, this might be good for us

We have one that is plastic instead of mesh material, otherwise same design. I mostly use it for frozen fruit and veggies when DD is teething, and it's very easy to clean.
My nephew loved them. When DD was teething, they were great to put something frozen in there. But it was a brief love affair. And they're a PITA to clean.
I think I used ours twice over the span of 3 kid's.
Pretty much this except it was zero times w/two kids.
I read BLW when DS was 5 mos. old and we jumped in when he started solids a month later...I just never really made a space for the mesh feeder in our routine b/c BLW was so easy. I found it, never used, at the bottom of a drawer when we were moving recently. Whoops!
We tried it once (with an ice cube, I think). I didn't really like it. That said, if my kid had a hard time with teething, I might have used it more with frozen fruits and veggies.
We used it with frozen cubes of breasted milk or purses for teething. It was awesome for that and not bad to clean. We did make the mistake of using banana in it once, you might as well throw it out after that.
