My best friend recently moved from Vegas to Denver and I've been trying to find a time to go see her. I found a Spirit flight for $100 round trip, taxes included, so I jumped on it. I know the baggage fees aren't included but we'll only have one bag. My daughter is a lap infant and I expected a charge, but it doesn't look like there is one.
I hope my experience isn't as bad as everyone elses. I swore I'd never support their business model and crappy customer service, but those darn low prices got me!!
You know what you're getting into and you're an experienced traveler -- you'll be fine! What scares me about airlines like Spirit is the thought of my 77-year-old, not well-traveled mom using them and getting charged because she wants to take a bag with her medication in the cabin with her.

Travel is fatal to prejudice, bigotry, and narrow-mindedness, and many of our people need it sorely on these accounts. Broad, wholesome, charitable views of men and things cannot be acquired by vegetating in one little corner of the earth all one's lifetime. Mark Twain

I flew Spirit from Fort Lauderdale to Cartagena and lived to tell the tale, but, boy, was that plane like a party bus with wings. I generally just use planes as a way to transport me from point A to B, though, so I knew not to expect much and it was fine.
I just flew Spirit for the first time in July. It wasn't that bad, but I read their baggage and other rules multiple times. I felt bad for people that showed up with bags that fit under the seats of all other airlines, but got stuck paying $100 because of spirits crazy rules.
