I need help, MM Makeup. I'm in mid-30s and my skin and acne is as bad as ever. I've never been on hormonal birth control my entire life (for several reasons), and I suspect if I were on the pill my skin would be much clearer because I do think it is mostly hormone-related breakouts.
But then I noticed something else. I sleep on my side and usually find that my hands are under my face/head while I am sleeping. Many of my breakouts seem to be where I touch my face while sleeping.
Could this be another cause? If so, what should I do about it? Wear some kind of thin white gloves at night? That sounds strange, but I am getting desperate to try to limit all these breakouts.
It could impact it. I know I breakout sometimes just from being on the phone too much, it's easy to get bacteria and oily buildup on your face. I don't know if I'd go so far as to wear gloves, but I'd make sure you're washing your hands right before bed, and changing your pillow case on the regular (like every 1-2 days).
I don't think acne necessarily equates to touching your face while sleeping. Make sure you're changing your pillowcase often (1-2x week) and wipe down your cell phone and other phones with antibacterial wipes.
Also, take a look at your skincare routine. Are you washing your face before bed? Your hands would be somewhat clean if you are. What types of products are you using - anti-acne? What's your diet like? Sometimes dairy can trigger acne as well.
If all else fails, I would go see a dermatologist. They can really work wonders for your skin.
