We said good bye to our kitty on Saturday. It was time. Thursday evening he was still purring and responding to us and attempting to eat and drink. Friday evening he wasn't responsive, he stopped purring and about an hour after we made the appointment he started having seizures. Our vet set up shop in a sunny patch on her clinic's lawn and with his family around him he very quietly went. It was definitely time, he was gone before she was half way through the injection.
Our vet told us something very helpful the night we made the appointment. To them, we are eternal. Because their lives are so much shorter they never have to know what it's like not being with the family who loves them. It's us, the owners, who have it hard in this relationship.
So he knew how very loved he is and we let him go.

We tried to explain to PF that Kitty had to go bye-bye. She doesn't get it and still looks for him if we read a story with a cat in it. So we'll keep telling her and we'll show her pictures and let her know that he's happy where ever he is.
