Lily looked awful. Robin was awful for awhile because she was pregnant. I have watched this show since the beginning, and every season it has gotten worse, but last night took the cake. If I had heard good things and sat down to watch last night for the first time, I would have been very disappointed. At least the Mother isn't so bad. Oh well. Last season, stick it out, see Ted end up happy. The end.
i'm with you. I liked last nights episodes. that weren't as good as the early years but they were fun and we laughed in a good way watching so I'm happy.

Minority here, too. I got some good laughs, especially when "old Ted" broke in during the scene between Lily and the Mom with all the proof that the Mom was covering up her similarities to Ted while Lily vented.

Also, the whole "are we related?!" thing was not necessary. It kind of felt like it was a last minute, oh crap, we don't have any Barney/Robin interaction. Let's do this!

Agreed. That was clearly nothing but filler material.

It was totally filler, although it did produce some of the funnier moments in the episode, IMO. I love awkward scenes that make me squirm, lol.

I laughed at, "You've piqued my incest ... INTEREST!!!"
Overall, though, I thought that whole storyline was so pointless. Along with Marshall trying to drive cross-country to get to the wedding on time - I REALLY hope that he's not on this road trip for more than a couple more episodes rather than half the season.
I think this season is going to provide us with some nice moments concerning The Mother (her meeting the four friends, and flash-forwards with Ted), and I'd like to wrap up the Barney-Robin-Ted love triangle pretty soon, but we're going to have to sit through a lot of other crap in the meantime.
I'm not spoiled at all to this season, and just now realized it's the last season . Soooo, I was really confused as to why they hadn't wrapped up the wedding already and moved on. Am I to understand that the wedding will be like half of this season? The rehearsal dinner hasn't even started!

The wedding weekend is going to encompass the ENTIRE season.

The acting has been HORRID. Every cast member was awful. Lily was awful. That scene in the Packers store? The old relatives. The bottle of scotch. Even if the script was halfway decent, the acting wouldn't have done it justice. So disappointed.
I thought last night was funny! Though I'm not one to get worked up about this show, I don't care if they show the mother in the last 5 minutes of the series, I just think its fun to watch.
They already showed her ... she first appeared in the last few seconds of the season 8 finale in May, then she had a couple scenes with Lily in last week's episode, and at the end of that same episode they did a flash-forward scene to her and Ted dating.
I was kind of hoping she'd be in last night's episode as well, but I'm glad she wasn't, because I want them to keep her fresh and exciting. She's going to get dull/annoying very fast (like everyone else) if they stick her in every episode.
I still like the show too, and I'm eager to see how they wrap everything up, but it's just not as funny as it used to be. They can still hit the big emotional scenes, however.

Yes. I've never really cared for the Lily character/Alyson Hannigan's portrayal of her, and Jason Segel/Marshall just seems like he's sleepwalking through it. But most of that is because he just has a crappy storyline right now ... and I wonder if that goes back to how he didn't even want to do this season in the first place (he was the final cast member who, reluctantly it seems, agreed to do a ninth season). So I wonder if it was part of his contract that he'll be doing a lot of his scenes independently of the main cast (maybe he has film projects?), or if they're "punishing" him by giving him a really bad plot.
Sorry - my wording was off, I know they've shown her. I mean I don't care if they end the series without showing his entire relationship/wedding/etc with the mother. I don't care if she is minimally shown. My enjoyment of the show is just to laugh at the main characters, I don't care about the mother really.
Ah, gotcha.
Before the season 8 finale, I would've been perfectly happy to only have seen The Mother in the last 10 seconds of the show, even if she didn't have a speaking role. Or even if we didn't see her at all, like if we just saw her from behind and the camera shot was Ted over her shoulder. Because, really, after 8 years of buildup who could possibly live up to that? I didn't really care so much about The Mother herself, but I wanted to see under what circumstances Ted actually met her, and how he finally got over Robin once and for all.
But so far I like the actress they picked to play her ... her scenes with Lily were OK, and the scene with Ted was cute, so I'm happy with her so far. Hopefully they don't screw it up.
OMG this weeks episode was SO BAD. It wasn't funny AT ALL. I didn't even smile, let alone laugh. I'm not sure I will make it through this season. All the characters suck. It is so sad considering how funny this show was in the past.
