It's Friday (casual day in our office) and the partners are all gone to a retreat. I came in specifically to meet with a lawyer on behalf of someone from one of my firm's other branch offices; otherwise, I was going to take the day off. Since literally no one is here, I rolled in at 10:00 this morning in white Roxy pants (drawstring waist, naturally) and a black tank top.
I just spoke to the guy I'm meeting with and he sounded older than I expected, so I googled him. He is a BFD, the private lawyer for someone who is a really, really, really BFD.* So now I feel like a complete tool. I am debating running to the mall but I feel like it's more important to be at the office making sure everything gets prepped for the meeting. TOTAL SoCal lalalalala I don't have to dress nice FAIL.
*I knew who he was coming in on behalf of, I just didn't know he was that person's personal lawyer. I assumed he was an associate or junior partner at a firm that represents the guy.
She's at a doctor's appointment. That I didn't know about until I went looking for her and the person who sits next to her told me. Which is part of why I don't feel comfortable leaving - if he gets here early, I'd rather meet him in linen pants and a tank top than make him wait at security.
Or, alternately, find someone in your office who is roughly your size and borrow her blazer.
I'm not kidding about sending your secretary though. I may or may not have made a few dashes to local stores on behalf of attorneys.
I had a black sweater downstairs in my car waiting to be drycleaned. I grabbed it and Shout sprayed it until the wrinkles mostly fell out. So my shoulders at least covered.

This sounds good. Everyone here wears jeans on Friday, even those with client meetings.
