How strictly are they enforcing it (at Giants Stadium in particular)?
I have a clutch-sized purse with a strap that is 9"x5". I know that's too big, but it isn't *that* much bigger than my hand. Are purses like that getting past security?
All I want is a safe place to carry my phone and driver's license, and perhaps some money and a credit card. Please don't tell me that I have to keep them in my jeans pockets or use the Coach wristlet I got as a bridesmaid gift in like 2007 and have never used because I hate (a) Coach and (b) wristlets (but hey -- a wristlet sounds like it would be annoying when it is my turn to carry the beer back to the seats!). I'd feel silly enough carrying the clutch-sized purse during the day.
I wouldn't chance it. I tried to take a too large bag to a college game last year and they would not let me in the door no matter how much I begged and pleaded and tried to convince them I wasn't going to harm anyone with it. I don't think it's worth the risk of being turned away (or having the hassle of checking your bag somewhere or getting a locker).
Is your husband or a guy friend going? In times like these I make them carry my stuff- payback for sneaking in their food at the movies.
Yes -- my husband and cousin will be there, but I want to be able to carry this stuff when it is my turn to get drinks or if we get separated (which is inevitable -- my husband is bad at staying nearby).
Tall boots where you tuck your cards/money in your sock?
Or Coach wristlet
I thought of both of these, but then realized that I didn't have any (once I tuck jeans in my boots, no extra room for anything else, and my only jackets with zippered pockets are clearly for working out only).
Grrrrrrr I don't want to have to buy something. I'm not ridiculously high-maintenance for thinking it is bizarre that we can't carry small purses, right? I'm not asking for anything ridiculous like room to hold my wallet -- I just want to be able to carry things without fear of them falling out of my pockets!
I went to the Broncos game and they were being very strict. I just stuck the necessities in my jean pockets like cc, dl, phone and lip gloss. I wouldn't chance it.

I went to a preseason game in Philly (the first one of the season) and they were turning people back who didn't have clear bags or wristlets. I met my husband there after work and stashed my work bag in his car, and took a wristlet in with money, cards, chapstick and my phone.
At least you could get a second use out of the coach wristlet? And not have to buy something.
They are enforcing it at the Jet games so i imagine its the same at the giants. They also give out plastic baggies when you go into the parking lots. Just stick the stuff in your pockets or bring out the wristlet.
That may be what I do -- I'm just concerned about things falling out or the license or credit card breaking in half when I sit (that's happened before). All of my jeans are skinny jeans.
I've mentioned that I think that this rule is the stupidest, right?

We go to Dodger and Galaxy games all the time and while they don't have the NFL rules, I don't like taking a purse because it's just annoying to have to deal with it at the game. I always use a jacket with zipper pockets. I know you said you didn't want to buy one, but there are some nice North Face or REI or Columbia fleeces that have zipper pockets that are also good for running to the market on a cold morning or something like that when you might also not want to carry a big bag.
It is being strictly enforced. I went out and bought a purse that meets the requirements for the game this weekend. Even at Wembley they are enforcing it.
The stupidest thing about the rule is even with the clear plastic bags they are making people remove everything as they could have things rolled up in blankets and jackets.
