I know this was asked here recently but I can't find the post. We have a baby bjorn that was just ok. I want an actual carrier/backpack style bag not a sling. DH hates the slings and I want us to both get some use out of it. What do you all recommend?
I have both an Ergo and a Beco: DH seems to prefer the Ergo, but we use them interchangeably and I'd recommend both. The one exception is newborns in warm weather: then I like the Beco. The Ergo + newborn insert was just too hot for either of our babies b/c they were born in the spring.
Ergo. You're asking for a "soft structured carrier" if you happen to be browsing. We used the Ergo from about 3 months on (but you can use it sooner with an insert or a blanket to boost up baby) and still use it.

I have an Ergo and Beco Gemini and use them interchangeably at this point. My son is a peanut, so he was much more comfortable in the Beco when he was little and only started liking the Ergo after he hit 4 months. We had the infant insert, but he thought it was a torture device. Heh.

Dh preferred the bjorn and ergo as he did not want to attempt a wrap or sling. You'll get a much longer life out of the ergo, I still carried DS in it until he was 2.5.
But I also wanted to mention that I loved the Sakura bloom sling and moby wrap for myself
This is for the new baby. Is there a particular model of the Ergo or are they all created equal? I know we paid extra to get the bjorn with the added lumbar support although DH (who broke his back a few years ago) didn't seem to notice much of improvement as far as comfort goes.
Love of my life baby boy born 11/11. One and done not by choice; 3 years of TTC yielded 4 MMC and 2 CPs, through 4 IUIs and 2 IVFs. Focusing on making the world a better place instead...and running.

Ditto the Beco. We have the Gemini, which can be used to carry a newborn without any insert. I really like its versatility -- it lets you carry the baby facing in and out, on your hip, and on your back (although we have only used it the first two ways so far).
I also like that it is made out of cotton, so its light and breathable. The part that holds the baby (I have no idea what this is actually called) is also lightly padded, which I feel like makes it more comfy for DD.
We have the Catbird Baby Pikkolo - I think it is very similar to the Beco. We have used it since DS was 1 week old and still use it now (he is 21 months old). Lots of options - face in, face out, sit on hip, and back carry. Both DH and I have always used it and really liked it. Best perk is that you don't feel it in your back at all! Finally at 25 lbs I'm starting to feel it some, but even now it's really not bad.

Another vote for the Pikkolo. Liked it much better than the Ergo and Beco.

I really like my Ergo Organic & so does DS. I got it about a month ago. It's so much easier to wear him than hope he'll be content in the stroller while we're out shopping. (I used to end up pushing the empty stroller & carrying him most of the time)
Ergo was the best money spent. I used it until DS was a 35 pound 2 year old, and only stopped wearing him after I was pregnant with #2. It's amazing how comfortable it is to carry a child that large on your back with the right carrier.
