I'm trying to make more classic choices on the bigger items so we don't see the need to change it out that often. Remodeling that often isn't for me. Too much time and money that I would rather spend elsewhere.

I love to do it, but we're frugal (cheap!) so we try our darndest to choose $$$ items/ projects that'll last. I keep myself occupied by redecorating constantly (CONSTANTLY) or I'd be gutting parts of the house at all times LOL
We have lived in our home for 23 years. It doesn't look anything like id did back then. It was a new house with great bones and quality finishes. Still, your taste changes, your needs change. Some people move into a house and live happy for many years....Then, there are people like me that are always changing something, even if it is just a picture or lamp. I read somewhere that you should make updates to your kitchen and baths every 5 years. It could be just paint or a light fixture. Good luck!!
I agree with pp, while I don't think you ever will get to a point where you're done done, I do think every 5 years for most things is about right. Styles change quite a bit even in that amount of time. We moved into our house 5 years ago, just gone don remodeling our last room...master bedroom and bath and now we're starting our wa back out. This time we will mainly just repaint and redecorate though, so it'll be easier than demo!
Remodel vs redecorate. Redecorate - I paint and update decor every 10 years. I remodeled each home once (we used the space differently, but no change in flooring, and other large changes)
If you have the extra dollars to do major changes every year - more power to you. Don't plan on getting that money back if you need to sell..

I don't own a home yet, but I really can't imagine remodeling a single area more than once. Yes, styles change quickly, but my tastes are my own and they haven't changed much in the first 30 years of my life. Which is good, because I'm no where near rich enough to remodel a home regularly, and I don't ever expect to be.
We bought our house about 3 years ago. I imagine it will be constantly evolving. I am glad we didn't do too many major changes right away, because we've thought of better ideas the longer we've lived here. About a year ago, we made it to a point where everything was comfortable/livable for the time being. Now we are starting to do more detailed projects that are more along the lines of remodeling. It's daunting, but we know we'll probably be living here for at least 10 more years, so we figure we might as well make it what we want it to be.
I'm also starting to repaint a few rooms because I never loved some of the colors I picked when we moved in.
