When is your marathon? 10/13!!
Who here is in the sparkly frenzy of taper? I'm looking at you, Chicago ladies. What do you do or what will you do with yourself with eating/distraction/etc during your reduced mileage? I am busy working and studying to take my NP boards next week.
What would your 30-second training highlight reel look like right now? (another repeat question from many weeks ago!)
Where is your favorite place to wind down after your long runs? My couch with my DVR and ice bag on my knee
How do you mentally deal with successes and failures in running? Do you file away the good runs for when you need some self-talk, or what do you do with a run you know is not going well? What about hitting/not hitting your goals? I'm too lazy to answer these ?'s. Just got off three 12hr night shifts in a row and working again tonight. My legs are killing me from work. My toe naiul is falling off. I have a scratch on my cornea and cant wear contacts until my eye drops heal it completely and I cant run 12mi in the bright sun wearing glasses. Totally exhausted and skipped my long run. Fuck it. Brush it under the rug and move on with my taper week.
Why has time seemingly flown by yet again? I blinked and September is gone. Name some of your favorite things to do in the fall. I cannot believe tomorrow is October. Especially since the high will be 81 here in Chi. Um, you've got 12 days to cool shit down, Mother Nature. Don't fuck with me.
Who here is in the sparkly frenzy of taper? I'm looking at you, Chicago ladies. What do you do or what will you do with yourself with eating/distraction/etc during your reduced mileage? Hey hey, Chicago isn't the only one mid-taper. Wineglass is SUNDAY!!! I still run three more times this week, and have plans for yoga at least two days this week.
What would your 30-second training highlight reel look like right now? (another repeat question from many weeks ago!) Lots of laughing with friends on the longest long runs, interspersed with shots of the three pairs of shoes I've used this cycle.
Where is your favorite place to wind down after your long runs? Starbucks or my bed, with compression socks and yoga pants on
How do you mentally deal with successes and failures in running? Do you file away the good runs for when you need some self-talk, or what do you do with a run you know is not going well? What about hitting/not hitting your goals? I've realized my goals were too lofty for how I prefer to train, so I'm focusing on just enjoying the actual act of running, regardless of time. I definitely file away the good ones and try to learn from the clunkers. I try to remind myself to stay in the moment.
Why has time seemingly flown by yet again? I blinked and September is gone. Name some of your favorite things to do in the fall. I've been enjoying walking the dog longer without him bonking out after a mile (he's 10), and I'm a giant fan of putting on a hoodie or scarf and diving nose-first into a one-pump pumpkin spice latte with extra whip while I read or window shop at the local LLL partner store.
Who here is in the sparkly frenzy of taper? I'm looking at you, Chicago ladies. What do you do or what will you do with yourself with eating/distraction/etc during your reduced mileage? Not me!!
What would your 30-second training highlight reel look like right now? (another repeat question from many weeks ago!) A disproportionate amount of swimming lol
Where is your favorite place to wind down after your long runs? My couch
How do you mentally deal with successes and failures in running? Do you file away the good runs for when you need some self-talk, or what do you do with a run you know is not going well? What about hitting/not hitting your goals? I dont stress abiut it. I just pick myself uo and go on to the next thing. Running is for fun, there are no stakes.
Why has time seemingly flown by yet again? I blinked and September is gone. Name some of your favorite things to do in the fall. Right?! I agree. I love racing every weekend in the fall, whicb isnt happening this year. I just love the weather and not being hot all the time lll
Who here is in the sparkly frenzy of taper? I'm looking at you, Chicago ladies. What do you do or what will you do with yourself with eating/distraction/etc during your reduced mileage? Um, me. I have been taking advantage of the reduced mileage by taking some extra naps. Last week kicked my ass
What would your 30-second training highlight reel look like right now? (another repeat question from many weeks ago!) Lots of sweat, packets of gu, and more sweat
Where is your favorite place to wind down after your long runs? my living room floor, with my foam roller
How do you mentally deal with successes and failures in running? Do you file away the good runs for when you need some self-talk, or what do you do with a run you know is not going well? What about hitting/not hitting your goals? I know that there is always another run.
Why has time seemingly flown by yet again? I blinked and September is gone. Name some of your favorite things to do in the fall. Eating apples/apple crisp, running through the leaves, wearing hoodies and tall boots. In most falls: drinking pumpkin beer, but since I am pregnant, I will have to wait until next year for that one
Who here is in the sparkly frenzy of taper? I'm looking at you, Chicago ladies. What do you do or what will you do with yourself with eating/distraction/etc during your reduced mileage? I'm just now starting taper, so it's not bad. I think it'll be easier to stick too since it's only 2 weeks. I know I need to behave myself for these two weeks and let my legs fully recover from those 22 miles yesterday.
What would your 30-second training highlight reel look like right now? (another repeat question from many weeks ago!) It would almost solely consist of my super long run 18, 20, 22. Those were my strongest runs. I also had a great 10 miler at MP, and a few great bridge runs, and a fun race day shopping trip with my girls.
Where is your favorite place to wind down after your long runs? We do a group breakfast after our long runs. I love sitting outside, eating, drinking coffee, and hanging out with my running friends.
How do you mentally deal with successes and failures in running? Do you file away the good runs for when you need some self-talk, or what do you do with a run you know is not going well? What about hitting/not hitting your goals? I definitely hang onto the good runs to remind myself that the bad runs are just that, bad runs. I try not to beat myself up. I tell myself that it's OK to have bad days. We all have them, and I don't have anything to prove. Sometimes it's just about getting it done.
Why has time seemingly flown by yet again? I blinked and September is gone. Name some of your favorite things to do in the fall. I'm just looking forward to cooler temps. Nothing specific around here, I'm just really ready for a change in seasons.
chitownbelle, I've been stalking accuweather and I should have followed ebeth's advice about stopping once you had the answer you wanted. 2 days ago race day weather said high of 63, today it's a high of 72.
How are YOU feeling, running mama to be? Are you excited to have the little one along for its first marathon? I can't wait to hear how it goes
I am super excited! I think it's kind of cool that I get to run my first marathon with this tiny human inside me. I have been using training as the reason why I'm not drinking though, so I think the neighbors are going to get suspicious when the marathon is over and I'm still not drinking.
Who here is in the sparkly frenzy of taper? I'm looking at you, Chicago ladies. What do you do or what will you do with yourself with eating/distraction/etc during your reduced mileage? I have no frenzy. I'm too tired for frenzy. and I don't feel like i'm tapering at all. maybe this week will feel more like taper.
What would your 30-second training highlight reel look like right now? (another repeat question from many weeks ago!) umm. . . no idea.
Where is your favorite place to wind down after your long runs? my couch.
How do you mentally deal with successes and failures in running? Do you file away the good runs for when you need some self-talk, or what do you do with a run you know is not going well? What about hitting/not hitting your goals? successes aren't difficult. failures are. I think I need to set myself up for a 'slam dunk' race because I haven't had a PR since like. .. October 2011 and I would really like one. it would make me feel much better about myself.
as far as what I do on a bad run? well yesterday I just up and quit. I was supposed to do 16 but it wasn't going very well and I was bored of running so I ended up stopping at 14. usually I'd just push through but I was not feeling it yesterday.
Why has time seemingly flown by yet again? I blinked and September is gone. Name some of your favorite things to do in the fall. thanksgiving. I love thanksgiving.
chitownbelle, I've been stalking accuweather and I should have followed ebeth's advice about stopping once you had the answer you wanted. 2 days ago race day weather said high of 63, today it's a high of 72.
damn you! I saw a high of 55/low of 35 with some clouds and had stopped looking! now I'll have to start again!
Who here is in the sparkly frenzy of taper? I'm looking at you, Chicago ladies. What do you do or what will you do with yourself with eating/distraction/etc during your reduced mileage? I don't taper until November, but I'm pretty sure I'll just go insane. I'll end up doing more cross-training, and then get myself kicked out of the gym in the last week before my race (lol). I'll use my spare time to study for school and try to get my christmas knitting done. I don't know how I'll handle my eating. I'll try to keep it under control.
What would your 30-second training highlight reel look like right now? (another repeat question from many weeks ago!) Me kicking ass in the obstacle run that I did on Saturday. Maybe a few seconds of sprints and hills? lol. I really don't have any idea.
Where is your favorite place to wind down after your long runs? Bed.
How do you mentally deal with successes and failures in running? Do you file away the good runs for when you need some self-talk, or what do you do with a run you know is not going well? What about hitting/not hitting your goals? I tend to start obsessing if things don't go well, but I have had some nice positive self-talk pop up randomly in my brain during bad parts of some long runs, so that's been a pleasant surprise. This weekend's obstacle run has really boosted my confidence, despite the fact that I had to take today off because one of my ankles is sore. I have a half marathon this weekend, and I'm determined to shatter my previous PR (2:36). I know I can do it in under 2:15, and I think 1:59 might be possible. If I don't hit a goal, I compare it to something from earlier in my running career. I had a goal to never skip a run this time. I've had to skip 3 now. But so far I'm doing better than I did when training for my first marathon (~90% of the runs completed).
Why has time seemingly flown by yet again? I blinked and September is gone. Name some of your favorite things to do in the fall. Knit outside Long runs don't have to be at the buttcrack of dawn.
Who here is in the sparkly frenzy of taper? I'm looking at you, Chicago ladies. What do you do or what will you do with yourself with eating/distraction/etc during your reduced mileage? I ran 45 miles last week plus the usual strength and spin classes, so there hasn't been too much extra time yet! usually in the 2w before I do lots of deep cleaning, organizing closets, and going through the kids clothes (donate vs. keep). I also always get a hair appt the week or two before during one of the days I'm usually running.
What would your 30-second training highlight reel look like right now? (another repeat question from many weeks ago!) Good scenery! My part of the state is beautiful this time of year.
Where is your favorite place to wind down after your long runs? I usually get a 5 minute shower. There is no winding down when you have 3 kids. When I got home Saturday, I was greeted with a chorus of, "We're hungry!" I'm not complaining. My running is my wind down, "me" time.
How do you mentally deal with successes and failures in running? Do you file away the good runs for when you need some self-talk, or what do you do with a run you know is not going well? What about hitting/not hitting your goals? I don't sweat the day to day runs. I can overanalyze a bad race for years though. In fact, during my long run this past w/e I had an "aha" moment about why Rehoboth sucked last year. I was pushing for a certain time, instead of actually looking forward to the course. Luckily I have some awesome marathons lined up
Why has time seemingly flown by yet again? I blinked and September is gone. Name some of your favorite things to do in the fall. Halloween and Thanksgiving are awesome. Fall has begun to mean cross country season for us. The meets are fun, and it has been cool to come back this year and see the same kids from last year. Some of them are so fast, and they all work really hard (definitely not an everyone gets a medal culture at these meets)
Who here is in the sparkly frenzy of taper? I'm looking at you, Chicago ladies. What do you do or what will you do with yourself with eating/distraction/etc during your reduced mileage?
What would your 30-second training highlight reel look like right now? (another repeat question from many weeks ago!) Moderately long runs and an "i forgot about the hurt that's coming" grin
Where is your favorite place to wind down after your long runs? Ideally I would take an ice bath, then hot shower, put compression socks on under my pants, and go to brunch with the fam. Maybe a nap later in the day. This happens maybe once a cycle Usually it's get home & clean poop off of the wall, make 42 snacks of carrots and yogurt and crackers, a few time-outs, and a refused nap. I'm mostly kidding.
How do you mentally deal with successes and failures in running? Do you file away the good runs for when you need some self-talk, or what do you do with a run you know is not going well? What about hitting/not hitting your goals? You know, the successes still surprise me. So, I think the running failures confirm what I already sort of expect, and the successes are always shocking & keep me riding a high for awhile.
Why has time seemingly flown by yet again? I blinked and September is gone. Name some of your favorite things to do in the fall. A warm fire, watching football in my Broncos sweatshirt w/ H & DD; taking a walk w/ DD & the dogs and a warm drink; it is also the best time ever to visit our city - a million cool things happening - so we get out and do lots of cool Albuquerque things in the fall.
I think we have another MMM grad this week? Let's hear about those miles!
When is your marathon?
Chicago 10/13!
Who here is in the sparkly frenzy of taper? I'm looking at you, Chicago ladies. What do you do or what will you do with yourself with eating/distraction/etc during your reduced mileage?
I did my last long long run yesterday so I'm officially tapering now and it is kind of a relief. I need a break. That unplanned extra week of hard running was tough mentally.
What would your 30-second training highlight reel look like right now? (another repeat question from many weeks ago!)
Slow and sweaty.
Where is your favorite place to wind down after your long runs?
The bathtub and then my couch.
How do you mentally deal with successes and failures in running? Do you file away the good runs for when you need some self-talk, or what do you do with a run you know is not going well? What about hitting/not hitting your goals?
I have a hard time holding onto the feeling of a really good run when I follow it with a tough one. I don't really have any strategies for dealing though - I just keep going and eventually I know there will be another really good one.
Why has time seemingly flown by yet again? I blinked and September is gone. Name some of your favorite things to do in the fall.
I love love love running in the fall. It's so pretty outside and the light is different and I like to be outside to enjoy it. Also college football and holidays and wearing boots.
Who here is in the sparkly frenzy of taper? I'm looking at you, Chicago ladies. What do you do or what will you do with yourself with eating/distraction/etc during your reduced mileage? Taper madness is swinging into full effect! I am baking. I never bake. Is this what pregnant people do right before the baby comes? I feel like I am in a similar state of crazy, lol. I have been trying to keep the eating in check, but making pumpkin muffins and choc chip zucchini bread this morning probaby isn't going to help that.
What would your 30-second training highlight reel look like right now? (another repeat question from many weeks ago!) I don't even know what to say for this, other than running...and running... and running.
Where is your favorite place to wind down after your long runs? H and I ALWAYS go out for a huge breakfast after long runs. I stretch outside while we're waiting for a table, then we hang out and eat lots of food. its the best
How do you mentally deal with successes and failures in running? Do you file away the good runs for when you need some self-talk, or what do you do with a run you know is not going well? What about hitting/not hitting your goals? This is a work in progress. When I have a particularly amazing run that I wasn't expecting, I usually can't stop talking about it. When I have a horrible run, I alternate between "meh" and "OMGZZZ I have lost all my endurance/speed/etc! WOOOOEEE IS MEEEE" lol.
Why has time seemingly flown by yet again? I blinked and September is gone. Name some of your favorite things to do in the fall. I disagree, this training cycle has seemed about 239409234 years long. I am so excited that fall is finally here though. Drinking hot chocolate, pumpkin bread, running through crunchy leaves, and generally being outside. I love love love fall!

When is your marathon? 1/19/14
Who here is in the sparkly frenzy of taper? I'm looking at you, Chicago ladies. What do you do or what will you do with yourself with eating/distraction/etc during your reduced mileage? Not me! I'm just getting going.
What would your 30-second training highlight reel look like right now? (another repeat question from many weeks ago!) Not terribly exciting. My longest run so far this cycle has been 9 miles, and I've done a couple pace runs. But they don't look all that different probably.
Where is your favorite place to wind down after your long runs? the shower
How do you mentally deal with successes and failures in running? Do you file away the good runs for when you need some self-talk, or what do you do with a run you know is not going well? What about hitting/not hitting your goals? I really struggle with bad runs, mostly because they are few and far between and so I just get freaked out that my body has somehow all of a sudden forgotten how to run or something.
Why has time seemingly flown by yet again? I blinked and September is gone. Name some of your favorite things to do in the fall. This time of year makes me miss really living in NJ. All my friends from there are posting fall pics on FB...hayrides, long sleeved clothes, apple picking. I'm still sweating buckets in 90 degree weather. Womp womp. But ask me again in February and I will be SO glad I'm not up to my eyeballs in snow with no end to winter in sight
chitownbelle, I've been stalking accuweather and I should have followed ebeth's advice about stopping once you had the answer you wanted. 2 days ago race day weather said high of 63, today it's a high of 72.
damn you! I saw a high of 55/low of 35 with some clouds and had stopped looking! now I'll have to start again!
Yeah, sorry. I was thrilled w/a low of 50 and a high of 63. Thrilled. 35 is a bit too cool for this FL girl, but 72 is probably getting a wee bit too warm.

When is your marathon? MCM, 10/27
Who here is in the sparkly frenzy of taper? I'm looking at you, Chicago ladies. What do you do or what will you do with yourself with eating/distraction/etc during your reduced mileage? One more week until I taper! But looking at my schedule, it seems that my first week of taper is still pretty high mileage. I don't think I'll go taper crazy until week 2. I hope to sleep in a little later.
What would your 30-second training highlight reel look like right now? (another repeat question from many weeks ago!) Run, sweat, eat, repeat.
Where is your favorite place to wind down after your long runs? My couch, in front of the TV. Sometimes it actually happens.
How do you mentally deal with successes and failures in running? Do you file away the good runs for when you need some self-talk, or what do you do with a run you know is not going well? What about hitting/not hitting your goals? Successes are easy. I get a huge high that lasts for the rest of the day. I get down on myself for bad runs, but I usually get over it within 24 hours. If I have a bad race, I focus on the next race to redeem myself.
Why has time seemingly flown by yet again? I blinked and September is gone. Name some of your favorite things to do in the fall. Apple picking, fall festivals, and everything pumpkin.

Congrats jene and hope you have an excellent marathon experience!
When is your marathon? 10/13
Who here is in the sparkly frenzy of taper? I'm looking at you, Chicago ladies. What do you do or what will you do with yourself with eating/distraction/etc during your reduced mileage? I started cooking again - which is my main hobby and has been seriously pushed aside these past few months. I've been eating out for almost every meal...its so bad and the food often sucks. I missed peach season completely. Sad about it.
What would your 30-second training highlight reel look like right now? (another repeat question from many weeks ago!) Sweaty. Tan (I seem to forget to put sunblock on when I get up at 5am...). And a few major mishaps involving the same white shirt (note to self: do not wear white shirts. ever).
Where is your favorite place to wind down after your long runs? On my couch. Preferably with pork tacos that I've made. Or from the taco place up the street. Either way. I almost had a meltdown after my 20 miler when I realized the taco place was closed on Sundays (wtf?).
How do you mentally deal with successes and failures in running? Do you file away the good runs for when you need some self-talk, or what do you do with a run you know is not going well? What about hitting/not hitting your goals? Too tired to even think of what my goals are at this point. I just keep running.
Why has time seemingly flown by yet again? I blinked and September is gone. Name some of your favorite things to do in the fall. Drink apple cider. Normally I like wearing boots - but this year I don't want anything touching my feet so I'm not sure what I'm going to do when I can't wear flipflops anymore (which I've been rocking without a pedicure and two black toenails - classy!!!)

When is your marathon? 11/9
Who here is in the sparkly frenzy of taper? I'm looking at you, Chicago ladies. What do you do or what will you do with yourself with eating/distraction/etc during your reduced mileage? n/a, never been in a marathon taper
What would your 30-second training highlight reel look like right now? (another repeat question from many weeks ago!) Laverne and Shirley runner without coordination or grace or for that matter a regular running buddy still managing to get her miles in for her first marathon.
Where is your favorite place to wind down after your long runs? sitting outside watching the kids play with DH.
How do you mentally deal with successes and failures in running? Do you file away the good runs for when you need some self-talk, or what do you do with a run you know is not going well? What about hitting/not hitting your goals?Successes, I do keep thinking about them. My fifteen miler was stellar a few weeks ago. And when a run is not going well, I do my best to slow my pace, focus on my breathing and just be. And for my goals, somehow I have always managed to set realistic goals so the only time I didn't hit a goal was the Peachtree. I had run a much hillier course in 54 so I wanted the Peachtree in 53. But I hadn't compensated for the weather and missed my goal by four minutes.
Why has time seemingly flown by yet again? I blinked and September is gone. Name some of your favorite things to do in the fall. I love to get the kids on the bus and come back to bed with coffee and my kindle while snuggling with the dogs. I also like to go hiking with the kids and dogs and DH in the fall. I thought you were the one that was running this weekend!!! You go girl! <)
How are you feeling about going into the race this weekend? Are you ready for some fantastic finish line wine?
I'm so excited for you! Can't wait to hear about it on the other side!
Oh, ha. Nope, five days! I'm feeling...fine. Apprehensive about the drive (9hr) and all the logistics, but in good standing for the race, I think. Not expecting any wowzers, but looking forward to the experience in general. I've wanted to run this one since 2010! Forecast looks rainy; it's wavered since I started checking, as it always does this far out.

When is your marathon? Nike Women's, October 20
Who here is in the sparkly frenzy of taper? I'm looking at you, Chicago ladies. What do you do or what will you do with yourself with eating/distraction/etc during your reduced mileage? I'm in the taper, THANK GOD! I haven't gone crazy eating, etc. I'm a single mom of 2, going through a nasty divorce, work full time, commute, training for a marathon and am now selling a house and moving, I think I might have enough to do!
What would your 30-second training highlight reel look like right now? (another repeat question from many weeks ago!) Sweat, sweat, sweat, swear, swear swear...
Where is your favorite place to wind down after your long runs? My jacuzzi bathtub, going to miss it!!
How do you mentally deal with successes and failures in running? Do you file away the good runs for when you need some self-talk, or what do you do with a run you know is not going well? What about hitting/not hitting your goals? I didn't set any goals, I want to get to the start line and finish line. This is the ONE THING I am doing for myself in this crazy year so I figure every run I'm able to do is a win, good or bad.
Why has time seemingly flown by yet again? I blinked and September is gone. Name some of your favorite things to do in the fall. Wear boots!!
