I know I did this last week so please head out if you don't want to read a jumbled mess of a post.
My friend's funeral was today. Watching and hearing his two little girls cry had me sobbing during the service. Knowing they will not have him there for their first dates, their proms, their weddings, will never know his grandchildren, fucking sucks. Friends spoke about how he'd touched their lives or brought them to Christ or helped them through AA. He was a Christian (as am I) so I believe he is in Heaven and cancer-free. There was so much love there. The last song played was Aaron Neville's "I Bid You Goodnight" and everyone cried.
After the service we all gathered at a local pizza place where he worked as a kj (karaoke). We all (at least 300 of us) sang "Don't Stop Believin'" at the tops of our voices and now we're all going to song the very first song we ever sang with him. We watched a video of him skydiving with friends and everyone cheered. He never met someone who wasn't his friend. If you knew him, you loved him instantly. I never knew there could be so much laughing mixed in with so many tears.

I'm so sorry for your loss. My heart breaks for his family and friends. Your friend sounds like he was an awesome guy though, who left you all with a backpack full of memories. Cherish those.
