Every time I go to the book store I pick up this book and consider buying it, but I just can't commit to it so I'm asking to be talked into or out of it.
If you read it and liked it, can you tell me why? If not, why not? I am really having trouble committing.
I haven't read it, but I read his novel Birds Without Wings and loved it, so I can vouch for his writing skills in general.
And if you want me to talk you into that one I can! It's a combination of a biography of Ataturk and portraits of a Turkish village during the Turkish war for independence. Which sounds terribly drab, but it's full of colorful characters and human interest. If you've read Middelex, it makes a fantastic prequel, because it explains the Asia Minor Greeks and explains some of the background about what Greek people were doing in Turkey to begin with, why they had to leave, and how the events at Smyrna came about.

Thanks! I checked the library's online ctalogue, but they do not have it listed, so I will have to go in and ask. If they can't get it, I think I'm going to take a chance the next time I see it.
